Do you like bitter food? I do question how true this article is but it is an interesting read.

I like tonic water, strong black coffee, very dark chocolate, marmalade, asparagus, certain herbal soups and medicines, etc. I suppose I am a fan of bitterness. My fondness for bitterness has been a trait that set me apart from most of my family and friends and I thought it was just a weird quirk.

No, I only like sweet or spicy things.

What type of person am I?

Isn't coffee bitter? So people who like sugarless coffee are psychos?

I don't see any mention made about how strong the correlation is, so my guess is that it's far from a hard-and-fast rule. It takes a high degree of correlation for me to consider this sort of relationship as "relevant", and being a counterexample myself (I love bitter food, but consider myself a fairly nice person, and I'm confident that people who know me would say the same), I'm just not buying it.

I've heard the same thing said about sweet food - that people who like it tend to be sweet themselves. Does that mean that people who enjoy both are both kind and sadistic? I don't see how those two traits, assuming they're both genuine (else the claim is meaningless), can coincide comfortably. Do they instead cancel each other out? (If so, that'd be me, I guess, but I still don't buy it.)

I can see there being some connection between them - after all, the use of those "flavour" adjectives to refer to attitudes in the first place must be because those attitudes somehow call those flavours to mind. But I think it's a stretch to conclude that people who like those flavours always - or even usually - act in ways that reflect those flavours. What they have here is not a conclusion, but data with which to guide further research that might lead to an actual discovery.

I agreed with PV. This article was written without facts and any mention of the studies or what company sponsor the research. Bitter foods and herbs are known to be useful for the digestive system. Search herbalist Rosalee de la Forȇt for more information.

I've tasted some really bitter substances like reishi (mushroom) tea, this white crystalline substance called piracetam(extremely bitter), shilajit and a couple others that I can't remember. I prefer the taste complemented with other flavors for the most part, like coffee I can do black but not chocolate unless it's quite high quality since the lower quality stuff tastes more sour than bitter and not good at all.

People tend to enjoy more bitter foods as they age. For example, I didn't start enjoying bitter melon until recently.
