Japan to China: Nanjing artifacts "inauthentic"
Posted 10/10/15
Japan has objected to a decision by Unesco to add Chinese documents on the Nanjing massacre to its Memory of the World register.

“The submitted documents were based on the People’s Republic of China’s unilateral assertions, and the Government of Japan believes that there are obvious problems with the documents’ integrity and authenticity,” Japan’s foreign ministry said in an e-mailed statement Saturday.

As much as we'd like to, we don't know all the facts about the rape of Nanjing..
This'll be interesting, watching how it turns out.

It is true that some of the info on the Nanking Massacre is a little hazy... it most certainly did occur though. I think it's best to forget, forgive, and move on... every country does bad crap to other people, no country is innocent of that.

Bit hard to forgive when there's a lot of vocal nationalists with their heads up their asses. We have enough people attempting to white wash history. Not that the Chinese government isn't guilty of it either, but that's another story.

It's not easy to forget and forgive when Japan plays the victim.

of course Abe will try and reject any proof of the war crimes by Japanese officials as "false", "inauthentic", etc.
he almost rejects that the crimes even happened - he doesn't outright deny war crimes only because of great international pressure.

Yeah, Japan sure doesn't want to swallow that pill. It's pretty fucked up when even the Nazi Party members in the safe zone are all "WTF you doing Japan? Knock this shit off."

i just blame the Japanese government. iirc, they also altered the history books to include as little of the massacre as possible.
an average informed citizen is probably against Abe and his policies.
speaking of which, Abe was declining in popularity from what i remember.

I just don't get why Japan's government likes to downplay this tragedy. But then again, we did awful things to Native Americans for centuries. Heck, even the Vatican made an apology for the Spanish Inquisition about a decade ago.

I'm fine with granted Japan the ability to opt out of accepting these papers....provided the US gets to opt out of recognizing Japan's submission of internment papers.

History doesn't work like that, Japan. You don't get to select the events that you want future generations to remember and delete the rest. Every group of people on this planet, at some time during their history, has committed at least one atrocity against another group of people. That doesn't mean that the majority of the world holds you responsible for the action (as most people alive now we're not back in WWII), but we, as a population, do expect you to acknowledge what happened, teach this to your youth in the hope that this will never happen again.

Japan's been denying nanking for years now, no surprise they're continuing to do it.
