In the ongoing war against the spambots (in the comments sections for CR News articles, especially), the little exclamation point that reports posts to moderators is our first line of defense. Usually, it will say "this post has been reported to moderators", and that is that. Sometimes, though, it says "Unknown type" instead. Is the post still reported, or is that a bug?

I have been wondering this as well. Getting the exact same error, "Unknown type". Doing various searches in FAQ, KB, Forums, this is the only thing / post I could find about this specifically. Anyone have an idea?

Sorry it took so long for a response, I should have looked into this a while go but got a little busy. I just narrowed down the cause of this and sent it in to get fixed. This should only affect top level comments, but if you want to be able to report comments before the fix, just type this code into console, or into the address bar by typing javascript: in front of it.

$('ul#allCommentsList').on('click','a.reportmod',function(e){var mediakey=window.location.pathname.split('-');
mediakey=mediakey[mediakey.length-1];var id=$(this).parent('div')[0].id.split('_')[2];modreport_add(id,'talkboxcomment',mediakey);});

Keep up the good fight, as the person who probably deletes the most spambot accounts, I appreciate the reports.

Kudos on that thankless job - I've had the same role elsewhere, though from the front end (verifying forum accounts as likely people or rejecting obvious bots), and it's neither fun nor easy.

This is probably a different department, but flagging the spam comments on the Scum's Wish manga seems to do no good. The spammer appears to have gotten bored and gone elsewhere, but their refuse is still lying around. If there's someone in charge of comments on content, I'd appreciate it if you could forward the info to them.

Thanks. I"m not sure what you mean by "flagging the spam comments" -- you should have an option of voting down, which results in the comment being hidden, but not deleted, if enough people downvote it. Or you can click the exclamation point to "Report to Moderator." That normally does send a direct report to moderators and we're pretty fast at seeing them and deleting the comment when reported--unless you are getting some kind of error message.

I did just read through the Scum's List comments and saw some lower-level comments that had already been removed, but did see some top-level spam comments from late September that were still there. I've deleted those and some other comments elsewhere from the same users. Thank you for pointing these out.

I always mean to patrol Manga comments more regularly, but admit I haven't done much lately. Guess I need to step that up!

Thank you! (^_^) It really does make me feel a lot better to see those gone... they were kinda like a splinter every time I saw them.

The three from September were the ones I was referring to - I clicked on the "Report to Moderator" exclamation point for the first two and reported them as spam (with no error), but gave up on doing so for the third.

So I saw an offtopic obscene comment on Wakakozake (Drama) S1E9, normally I just downvote, but this one is kinda NSFW-level so I decided to try the Report it to a Moderator button, since that's probably what it's for.
But after I click the button it prompts for a reason for the report, with a type-in field. I tried multiple different reasons, but it just returns unknown type. What are the valid types of reasons for reporting comments on videos?

Design wise, it could help to have a list of viable options instead of a text input, including one vague one for unusual cases. This is what both facebook and twitter use for moderation reports
Examples:

Twitter:

Sorry to necro a super old post, but the rules seem to indicate that it's better than creating a new thread?

It sounds like a problem with the form, as AFAIK, those allow free-form responses that will be read by the moderator reviewing the report. You may want to try reloading the page or even trying a different browser.

Yeah, this is a problem with the template CR uses for displaying comments. Your best bet is to just report the user directly and mention that they have a problem comment.

Found it. I've deleted it.

It's actually okay to create new threads in the Help Section if reading through old similar ones doesn't solve your problem.

Thanks everybody! Didn't expect such a prompt response.

I normally read comments during the ending theme, so that the player doesn't accidentally go to the next episode, so it didn't occur to me it might be an error. Eheh, I'll definitely try reloading next time. I'll keep your advice in mind for the future. m(_ _)m
