Interesting article here.
http://en.rocketnews24.com/2015/10/11/whats-the-difference-between-a-good-otaku-and-a-bad-otaku/
I've noticed that most of the Crunchyroll gang fall in the "good" category. What do you think?

dont know about other forum citizen,
but myself i fall on the middle.
i wont listen to other saying that how good the series is,i wont argue, most of the time i just dont give any attention,if i hate a series,i hate it no matter what others say,but i wont force other to stop watching it,but if they ask my opinion abt the series i hate,i will just tell them what i really think.
and i wont recommend anything i like to anyone else if possible,
discovering it yourself make the experience much more fun,at least for me,most of the time i wont read/watch anything that is recommend to me,dont know why,i just hate it when i was told to do something.
can i consider myself an old school pasive otaku?i dont know...

well, good day to u op,thx for the article.
[sorry yall for the sub par english].

I'm on the good side personally

I do have friends on both sides of the spectrum though.

Good side friend - We'll talk about everything from english dubs, what we're watching, recommendations, and even waifus.

Bad side friend - Tells me I have bad taste in anime because I post a Love-Live meme in a group chat or don't agree with his "best girl"

Talk about eating stone soup . . .sorry, but that article didn't seem weighty enough to merit discussion. . .I guess it's back to "Scotch or Bourbon?" for me. . .

“A good otaku shares enjoyment and information with the people around him, so that everyone can feel happy. A bad otaku forces his tastes on others, picks fights with people who have a different way of looking at things than he does, and makes the people around him feel uncomfortable. All of you, be good otaku"

^ how precious is that? lol, i feel like a kid right now haha

I think the description of the bad otaku is pretty spot on. Unfortunately the line between good and bad is sort of unclear.
When does sharing enjoyment with the people around you become pushing your taste on others?

I thought it was great, and vaguely life changing.

I'm a bad otaku. Not the worst, but bad. I have difficulty telling when I've hit the "too much" threshold. I actually put "otaku" in most of my screen names (for some reason the "k" and "u" get cut off on the forum display even though they are part of this screen name) as a kind of warning to others and to myself.
