Huh, I have long since called myself an otaku, mostly since I stopped watching anime religiously. But I guess I could call myself a Bad Otaku. Not in the sense I'd get mad that someone didn't like the same animes, but I would dislike anything "mainstream" Besides DBZ and One Piece. Anyone who said they were good I'd just pout and told them to watch better shows. I was an "Edgy" Otaku.

Good = "This is a hobby I enjoy, I hope you will like it too."

Bad = "This is a critical part of my identity, and you will not question me on this."

I didn't know there was such a thing as a bad otaku. what do I think? I think this article was ghost written by the troll who baited me not long ago.

I've never even applied the word otaku to myself, or anyone else, for that matter.

I think the article is absolutely ridiculous, and the "good vs bad otaku" definitions are descriptive of any group of people, or people as a whole, and not limited to otaku at all.

Hell, you could rewrite almost the entire thing using other words in place of "Otaku."

"Nerd."

"Gay."

Even "person" for solely the definition part.

Screw being a "good" or "bad" otaku. I'm going to tell y'all what I like, and I'm going to tell y'all what I don't like, and if that's "forcing" my opinion on ya, I don't care. :3

I would never be sarcastic about languages, I'm trying to learn six and I sound like a first grader on each one and here you are typing English correctly almost like a native speaker.

Also, I consider myself to be a pretty decent otaku but I'm too poor to overindulge in the material like most.

I would better claim myself as a hardcore anime lover. For many, otaku is perceived as a negative thing. It's better to know someone who are interested in anime and talk about it. Just not letting everyone know you're a otaku and forcing others to be the same as you.
Come to think of it, 10 years ago I was introduced to a distant cousin whose parents thought we both love anime & manga. There were days I spent nights in a girl's bedroom, watching Full Metal Panic - nothing else happened. So sad she get married last year.
Oh, there was a junior who take the same road home as me. We both loved anime, we were so close that classmates said he's like a little brother to me. However, his (offensive) comment on some of anime I watched finally pissed me off, and we cut ties. When I contacted him again, he no longer watches anime.

If you have a balanced life, it seems as if that disqualifies you from being an otaku.

I'm an open book, ask me two years ago about anime, and I'd be like "Pokemon? I hate anime man. Weird shit." Ask me today, and I'll tell you just how much I enjoyed watching Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls in one day. Because I'm pretty new to the anime/manga/otaku scene, I'm an open book. Most things are new and great! Sure, some things I'll maybe put off for a while, but that's usually because I'm gonna watch something else.

So I'm sitting safely in the "Good Otaku" zone. And I brought a power strip to charge our devices.
