Love camping. This year we didn't get up as often, so only about a dozen nights. Last summer we did over two dozen nights, including 7 nights in Yellowstone.

My wife and I typically tent camp, and only take the RV for really long trips with our daughter. Starting next summer we will start up with the backpacking again, since our daughter can now hike more than a couple miles and is big enough to carry a bit of her own gear.

Yes. We even went camping overseas as well. Started camping using tents then migrated to pop up campers to travel trailers. You should give it a try.

I went from trailers to tents. That is how a real lover of the wilderness does it! =p I think sleeping on the hard ground and in the freezing cold is what makes it so fun! I do have to say though, sleeping on a sailboat while going across the Gulf from Texas to Florida and back was really fun!

Have you ever camped on a sailboat?

I've been camping a few times.

My favorite was when I did a 100 mile hike.
No tent on that trip, just a sleeping bag.

that sounds like a fun time.

So, I'm not camping material because I'm not sleeping on the cold hard ground! Hmm. I guess my preference to be in a warm, microwave, refrigerator, satellite watching, shower/toilet, hot and cold water running, environment is beneath you. What a pity! I'll remember to bring you more blankets and a inflating pad.

I've never been on a sailboat, it sounds fun. I've been on a cruise, does that count?

Blankets are nice, I have a good foam pad though! You do the old person camping =p I tease my parents about that. We used to always camp till they got old and their bones started to ache haha.

Nope, cruises don't count.. Unless they are like this...
Then I envy you with a passion!

You're all plebs.

I've camped my fair share in Arma 3, and I'm pretty damn proud.

If I had the time or money, I wouldn't mind taking you! Always nice to have a buddy when you go on a cross Atlantic sailing trip!

My dad was a commercial fisherman. We would take his boat to the Bahamas on weekend camping trips a couple times a year. We slept on the boat to avoid sand fleas.

I was also spent 12 years in the Navy.

Huge difference between sleeping on a 22' boat and an LHD

Thanks for serving! My Dad and one of two of my brothers served in the Navy, both on a destroyer.

Why is a LHD series called a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship than a carrier? Myself not knowing the difference, they look the same.

Yes many times when I was a kid. My childhood best friend loved camping. I never liked it. I hated the bugs and the ground hurt my back. My boyfriend has never been camping and he says he wants to go. I told him he'll have to go without me. lol

I went twice when I was around 13. Hated every second of it. The showers were dirty and filled with spiders, dirt everywhere; I constantly felt dirty. Mostly just read my books and listened to my walkman.

By a twisted turn of events, I'd love to do it again because I'd definitely appreciate it more. Funny how that works. Catching fish and roasting it sounds like fun.

An LHD's flattop is too short for most jets. The back of the ship drops down and fills with water, allow the hovercraft to deploy. The ship is primarily a marine transport, carrying ~2000 marines. It's primary function is amphibious assault, rapidly deploying those marines to the beach.

I was ship's company on the Boxer during my final tour.

I go camping as much as I can during the spring/summer part of the year since it's too cold for the rest of it where I live. Camping for me is nothing but a tent, basic supplies, a couple cases of beer and a chair to sit down on. Nothing beats camping like that, couple friends to share in the adventure and you have yourself a great way to kill a weekend.
