Similar to my "romance" thread, I was wondering if I'm the only person that gets kind of turned off with all the sexual based fanservice.

I'm talking about jiggling/big boobs that are clothed and the little lolicons and stuff like that.

I mean, I don't go around nitpicking a series just to look for it but considering most writers now, this seems to be a big thing, now'days.

My gripe is simply that depending on the timing, it can be a bit of a distraction and let's face it, you're not gonna ever see them naked so what's the point of teasing, y'know?

But yeah, what are your thoughts about the whole fanservice thing? (I personally call it "pg sexy" because once again, clothes).

A bit of panties or boobage never hurt nobody.

a little bit yeah, but like, look at One Piece and Bleach, though.

Maybe it's just me.

I do get annoyed when fan service becomes excessive, to the point of impairing the story. Rosario + Vampire comes to mind, they almost completely replaced the story with fan service.

Shows like To Love-Ru are the exception: fan service is half the point.

Absolutely true. During a poll they realized a large majority of teens in Japan are not having sex, or even dating. Either school, work, or Otaku'ness gets in the way.

When polling married couples, husbands said they didn't want to have sex because after having their first child their wives were not as attractive.

The wives polled in and said they thought sex was a chore and rather do houswork and such.

So now Japan has a declining birthrate, which will cause problems to their economy when that generation retires, and there are not enough young people to replenish the work force.

Look, fan service isn't that bad. When fan service is the whole point and purpose of the anime, then its bad. On an additional note, if you don't like it, don't watch it. That simple. Lastly, before anyones says "all new anime is just bad fansevice the only good anime is SAO". Your wrong. Dead wrong. Most of the shows in a season may have a dash of fan service, but as for the full out ecchi harem crap it's only 1 or 2 shows a season.

I'm fine with it, as long as it doesn't impair the story or mood.

If a woman is beaten and close to death, and her friends are pleading for the villain to spare her life, it's hard to get emotionally invested when all her clothes are shredded and her ass is in the air. Even if you're doing an ecchi show, it's not necessary to do it all the time.

One of the worst trends in fan-service, and probably the worst time to aim for sex appeal, is nudity and seduction during torture scenes. And I see it way too often to various degrees, even in shows I otherwise really like (Fairy Tail, Symphogear, Kill la Kill, etc.). If you're going for horror and disgust, sure. Having a villain literally strip a character of their dignity can be an extremely powerful way to get the audience righteously indignant. The fans will want revenge just as much as the character who was humiliated.

But if you're torturing a naked woman for the purpose of turning viewers on...it's just sleazy as F.
It's all about context. Fan-service can be campy or fun, and it usually is, but it can also be gross or idiotic.

I'm guessing that it sells a lot in Japan so Japanese fans must like it. I don't mind, I like it. Can't say no to more plot

Eh, I don't mind. I think sometimes it lightens things up a bit. I'm human, sometimes it's nice to see attractive characters like that it's not for everyone though, I get that.
