Nothing wrong with fan service as long as it does not wreck the story.

I feel like complaining about ecchi in an ecchi is like complaining about ice cream being cold. If you knew it was going to be cold, why would you eat it?

Fan service is fine as long as it is not in direct contrast to the show's mood, however, I would contend your "nowadays" is actually "has always been." Fan service is not a new thing. All anime does not feature fan service. If your examples of anything in anime are only "Bleach and One Piece" unless it's a conversation about "most over-hyped, -rated, and -milked series ever" ... ... ... I would say you need to watch more before you attempt to make such generalizations. It's okay, I understand; once Bleach has dragged you through 300+ episodes, it will leave you with some definite... opinions. That is a very limited pool for comparison, however.

Also, if your response to "the declining birth rate in Japan" is "that's a real thing?" it's evident you're not big on news or researching before you speak. This has been a widely reported phenomena for at least the past decade, including in American news outlets. To summarize, Japanese people live very long lives for a variety of reasons, including health care, exercise, and diet. Young people are not marrying and creating families like they used to as the pressure to work in intense in Japan for both men and women. Work pressure is not the only reason, of course, this is coupled with reasons like sexual stigma within their rigid societal standards leading to a considerably higher rate of singles. When you have a lot of healthy, old people are living the longest lives of any culture on the planet and you have a lot of young people not reproducing, the result is a dwindling labor force and a swelling retirement population, which makes for an unsustainable economy. This problem is not unique to Japan; the United States is also currently below the sustainable birth rate.

Here, have some references because I'm one of those kind of jerks.

It's annoying sometimes but I've got a pretty high tolerance for anime fanservice so I hardly notice it now. If your an anime fan there's not much you can do to escape it really. You just have to acept that it will happen or actively campaign against it (somehow).

If the oversexualization and fanservice jump starts the hanky panky for a healthy birthrate, hey, whatever works.

It doesn't bother me unless it's all the show is worth, or impedes the story.

I don't care. It's only a big deal because people make it a big deal. It's just a bunch of animated pictures anyway.

a little bit yeah, but like, look at One Piece and Bleach, though.

Maybe it's just me.

that's a real thing?

I mean, they're human and humans like to have sex, how is that even possible?

I was told by a Japanese person it's not true and a myth...i still think it's real.

Also not all humans inherently like to have sex.

I have a sex drive for example but i'm not interested in sex one bit actually if i could go my life and remove my sex drive or avoid sex i would gladly do so.

It is a very real thing, and not just in Japan (though Japan is the most extreme example). Many European countries are facing the same issue. The United States is spared only due to large numbers of immigrants, the white, middle class population is undergoing a natural population decrease (birth rate below 2.1)

I briefly considered moving to Japan and fixing their low birth rate problem, but my wife would hunt me down and kill me.

i personally think the current standard is a bit much, i think fanservice is ok if its only used sparingly per episode that doesn't slow down progression. in comedy it works well because comedy can easily work into it, but makes it stale to that sorta comedy. it is working and the only reason is because we enjoy and allow those jokes to happen further.

i sorta enjoyed the days where there are openly perverse character and not everyone is openly perversed.

i have seen interesting series, where fanservice slowed down a great story progression. sex sales, but a great story doesn't need to to be flat open.
