I've been watching cartoons as well as anime for ages and I keep wondering why the world of animation lacks jazz soundtracks.

Yoko Kanno is too busy. Jk. I don't really pay attention to who produces OSTs, but I know she produced for both Cowboy Bebop and Kids on the Slope. I feel like Kekkai Sensen was a bit jazzy, but I can't remember any specific tune.

It's probably because cowboy bepop utterly destroyed the status quo bar and raised it so high that it became intimidating.
Btw isn't durarara a bit jazzy? I know it's not full song but just kind of the scuffle scenes, idk what they're called.

The Baccano op sounds like jazz.

Also Ryoko's Case File op/ed sounds like jazz to me, ofc I'm a musical ignoramus.

will it just doesn't fit with the story lines. but Cowboy Bebop had some pretty good sounding jazzy music.

That's why I'd like to see American cartoons that fit well with jazz music, too. One time I was like, "If Cowboy Bebop can have jazz soundtracks, then why can't American cartoons?". Plus the music originated from the United States back in the 20th century. American cartoons should have all the music from the west. Whether it's jazz, country or even blues.

There should more songs like this in happy moments of cartoons, animation or anime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NXqEj0XzIU

Jazz is wonderful, but it is a niche genre... or put differently (and I repeat these with affection, not disdain):

“In Rock you play 3 chords and have 1000 people listening, but in Jazz you play 1000 chords and have 3 people listening!”
~ Frank Zappa

How do you get to be a millionaire playing jazz? Start with two million.

What's the difference between a jazz musician and an extra large pizza? The pizza can feed a family of four.
