Maybe as soon as 2030

What does everyone else think? How soon do you think full dive technology will exist and what do you think it will look like?

Real or fake, I'm down for it whenever it comes out. Although I'll probably be in my 50s by then.

2030 is the year were meant to be becoming immortal.

Nanobots would explain that.

I'm down!

People will hack into other people, sounds like a tremendous idea, guys. Can't wait to do stuff at the whims of some random fat kid.

Ikr! Did Ghost in the Shell teach us nothing?

Not just hacking, but what about cyberbrain sclerosis...

Ray Kurzweil predicted a lot of thing. As he is an engineer of Google and an MIT grad I can respect it to an extent.

Sure, let's not focus on important matters but on motherf**kin VR.

Never.

I guess what they try to do is similar to a natural process we do every night... which is dreaming; making us feel and see something as true.

However, during dreaming states, our body paralyses the limbs so that we don't act out our dreams and walk off a cliff or hurt ourselves by swinging arms around.

So while these nano things may be able to enter the brain, I don't see how they can know when to paralyse the body and when to make it go back to normal. I also don't see how they can manipulate the brain to lose sense of reality and see a virtual one; that is almost akin to mind control...

I don't think people who make guesses about virtual reality actually understand how the brain/body works and the complications involved. Like we obviously need to paralyse the body so that we don't swing the arms and hit the furniture or do something weird. But what kind of chemicals will be able to be used without side effects?

It's nothing but a pipe dream.

The applications go far beyond gaming. If Kurtzwell is correct, and he has a very good track record, it would fundamentally alter society.

Personally, I don't see it happening that quickly. I give it until the 2040's or 2050's. Even if the technology is developed, moral and legal issues will delay, or even prevent, full deployment.

Society has more than enough problems as it is right now.
And VR isn't about gaming; at least for me.
