Was excited when 1.1.7 of the CR player came out because it finally began to work like it should.

Seems the new Android v6 OS (called Marshmallow) that is now coming out has ended our Crunchyroll player happiness.

The Chromecast option works, but the player does not

Sad days again

Made a discover, it appears that the issue is primarily related to the initial caching of a new video. I went back to one that I had partially watched and it asked if I wanted to "resume" and it began to play. The video and controls all showed up and worked as expected.

Not sure of the glitch so mileage may vary for others. I'm hopeful it is a small fix to make it function properly

here's hoping

I was having this issue too, however the only way I could fix it was by clearing the apps data from my android device (settings > apps > crunchyroll > clear data). Hope that helps people.

Thanks Zuiq, I actually was coming back to post the "purge" of cache. I'm sure if others do what you suggest, it may work for them. I did a reboot of the Nexus Player after clearing the cache and the Crunchroll app began to function more reliably after a little coaxing.

So my initial declaration of the 1.1.7 being broken by Marshmallow turns out to be a little premature.

Both 1.1.7 & 1.1.8 work perfectly fine for me on the Nexus Player with Marshmallow. But do remember that this isn't (yet?) a full Android TV app, so as with any sideloaded app you take your chances until the devs actually release a proper leanback-compatible version. What we get in the meantime is the mobile app in tablet mode, with whatever Android TV unofficially supports in this mode.

But I haven't had the problems with the remote that you described in other threads, either. Crunchyroll is actually one of the easier apps to sideload because of its proper support in tablet mode for keyboard navigation which maps well to the remote.

What is still currently broken is that skip back/forward returns to the last position skipped to, rather than skipping 10s from the current playhead. This can get annoying if you skip through the opening credits then later want to skip through the end credits.

Thanks topgee for the input.

I've had the same issues with skip because if you ever use it once, it will go back to that original position no matter where you are at in the anime episode. Not always fun, but expected.

The issue with the play/pause has returned with v 1.1.8 but I'm going to try uninstall and the cache purge. The remote works perfectly in all the other apps (Plex, Netflix, GMusic, etc) so I'm not sure why it refuses to function properly in CR app.

keep hoping for leanback code from CR Android team, it's not like it's difficult to put it in the app. Oh well, we can keep hoping :)

Just for the record, I spoke too soon and once 1.1.9 broke the player controls, they were were also broken when I tried reinstalling all versions after 1.1.5, for some peculiar reason, even though they worked before. So 1.1.5 is the last stable version for me on the Nexus Player. This may be useful info for the devs.

As for your question about why the Crunchyroll app doesn't work like actual leanback apps, I'm not sure what to say apart from to repeat that Crunchyroll *is not officially supported* on Android TV. So there's little point making toxic posts complaining about sideloaded Crunchyroll not working as you want it to on the NP. Just report factually what isn't working and join the rest of us in hoping for a dedicated Android TV app sometime in the future.

Although tbh after reading your other posts, I wouldn't be surprised if the devs here are thoroughly sick of Android TV users by now, and I couldn't blame them ...

Thanks for the update, I'll see if I can find the apk for 1.1.5 since I'm using a pre- 1.x version

"Keep hoping for leanback..."

Yea, that's REAL toxic. Deferring to "not officially supported" isn't a song and dance that works, unless that claim that for every app in their lineup outside of Windows browser. If that's the case, well, it doesn't seem like good business.

Appears to me you just wanted to fire your cannon across someone's bow. I'm left wondering if I just got called ugly by a frog.

Have a great day.
