Even I remember recording / buying vhs tapes, but by that time anime was much more mainstream and aired dubbed on television.
Oh lord, I remember suncoast. I also remember getting manga at books a million and walden books, because barnes and noble wasn't the only chain around. Most of the manga series were $15 a pop by viz, and I didn't see them at or below $10 until Tokyo Pop came around.

It feels weird that I'm the only one of my friends who has a CR subscription. I tell everyone how great it is and that it's the same cost as Netflix so it's even great for low income families and they're all: "ehhhh".

Honestly I don't really blame them too much since they probably started their fandom during a time when free stuff are extremely easy to come by.

back then, you had to spend a few minutes (probably 5~10 min) to re-wind the VHS with some external hardware, don't know what it was called. i had one shaped like a sports car :p after watching, it was always a good idea to rewind, so that next time you could watch right-away.

never watched anime back then (i probably didn't even know what anime was), though my mother would go and rent dramas from a VHS store (they had a lot of drama stored in VHS tapes). you needed to go out of your way to rent a VHS in order to watch an episode or two of the drama. now, everything is available online for free or very cheap. how times have changed :p

They're all adults with jobs (for the most part) and they pay for Netflix. I guess I just find it weird that they'll pay for Netflix instead of cable but they're not interested in paying for CR. I guess we all just try to balance our budgets to the best of our abilities and these things happen.

aren't the real anime fans from Japan? idk. I don't have much angst being a kid from the 90s. I think its great for someone half my age to have services at their disposal. we all were that young. get over it

So you'd say this ( http://www.amazon.de/Love-Chunibyo-Other-Delusions-Sammelschuber/dp/B010MFD7PW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1444935828&sr=8-4&keywords=love+and+other+delusions ) is better? Don't think so. And yes, that's only the first 4 Ep.

Before the internet, there was a sense of rareness to watching anime. Now, a few clicks can get you nearly anything. The abundance takes something away from the experience.

You misunderstood.

Many don't know nor appreciate what they have, leading a strong sense of entitlement and their angst (over the smallest things).

This is about them appreciating what they have, not me lamenting the advances. Re-read the post, and it will become clear.

I can't relate to this.

I've never watched anime on tapes. I've only ever watch anime on TV or on DVD.

Nowadays, I just stream them.

when I started watching anime it was 8th grade, with dial up connection horrible speed and quality, my choices were either that, or cartoon network for bleach and Naruto
my first animes were Naruto and azumanga daioh if you don't count beyblade pokemon hamtaro and medabots

Give it time. Once the new tech becomes old tech, as time goes on, those who are paying attention will get more perspective. Meanwhile, the perspective that I've gotten has led me to love both new and old tech.

Now here, your cane. Feel free to wave it about furiously.
