"Hah! You darn kids have it so easy! I remember back when we had to stream anime on computers. Nowadays it just beams right into your head. It doesn't even have to be translated with these newfangled language implants!"

LOL! Who's 30 on this thread and is saying 'when I was your age?'

Try showing your grandpa a good anime, then hear what he has to say.

hmmm.

I think you can look at almost anything and make the excact same argument.

we had to go to stores to get music, we had to listen in on the radio make sure we got the name of the song, so we could go to the store and se if we found it again. movies same deal.

take mobile phones. I got my first when I was 15 and that was early, we were about 2 people in the whole school with mobiles. we had to walk to each other to ask if people wanted to play with you. there was no calling and asking if they were avaliable.

I can go on and on, it`s something that comes with the progression of technology. would you rather deal with the people that are complaining now, or not have progression at all. I`m sry to tell you, but you can`t have both.

I understand why you want to say something. I think most of us get`s pissed when we see people complain about something that`s way better than it used to be and so on. but it doesn`t really help.

you just need to think they are idiots who someday will be angry at kids complaining about teleportation taking to long

Ok, first of all, it's really cool hearing some about the history of anime in North America from a viewer's perspective. So thanks for that.

But this is akin to if my great grandfather started telling me about how easy we have it because they didn't have interstate highways, or digital computers. Is there some truth to it? Probably. Does it make a difference? No. Not ANY.

In fact, I could probably turn this around on you, and make some silly argument utilizing a hypothetical guy from 5-10 yrs prior to your story. "You think that was tough?" he asks. "Well let me tell you, the only anime I ever saw was a two-episode VHS of [insert random, really old anime here] that was brought back as a souvenir by a friend who went to Japan. I couldn't get it any other way, unless I imported the tapes and hired a translator."

I'm aware that getting anime is fairly easy compared to 10, 20, 30 years ago, but that's a terrible reason to tell people to shut up and stop complaining. After all, if people weren't dissatisfied with the current status quo, there would be no progress. Imagine someone gave OP's speech at an earlier point, like the one with inefficient streaming, and people listened to it. If everybody said, "OK, we've come far enough," then we wouldn't even be where we are today.

Not to mention, the current anime situation is far from perfect. Americans have it pretty good, but many other countries can't get anime as easily. Not to mention, watching all the anime you want isn't as simple as paying Crunchyroll $10 a month. I might live in the U.S., but I still experience problems with this site beyond availability. Crunchy tends to go down fairly frequently, and the video player crashes constantly. Also, Funimation, Hulu, Netflix, and other sites are snapping up highly popular series, and they may require their own subscription fees. If I'm going to be subjected to people guilting me from watching on the Dark Side by telling me to give money to the anime industry, I have better spending options than here.

No. Some people completely lack perspective.

Some complain that there is "too much ecchi stuff!" and "there aren't enough philosophical animes!" When in fact the sort of anime that panders to "thought triggers" (for lack of a better term) have increased over the years. I've been over this with some other people already... Early on, all you have in the stores _are_ ecchi/hentai stuff.

Nope............ See above. The "thought contents" of the anime industry have actually improved, and these guys don't know or realize it.

People complain about much more petty stuff than that. See above. It's as if their complaints would "improve the industry" when the industry contents have already been improved since the earlier times. The "thought contents" didn't improve because people complained, but because of other factors.

I'm not blaming you for feeling defensive (see the new first line I inserted into the post) but there's no need for that.

One of my friends' brother talks about The Olde Days when there wasn't an internet and we are spoiled. Not because of streaming. Not because of ordering DVDs. But because we have access to reviews. We can find other people that have seen an anime in question and find out if it is good or bad. He has a box of horrible anime that he bought and just absolutely sucked.

Yep, there is that too. All I had to go on was the packaging... It's really hit or miss. It just happens that the ones I got were never really bad.

...Either that or I blocked the bad ones from my memory

I think you misunderstand me.

all I`m saying is that people are always going to complain. people will complain about something always, someone will always complain.
and that is not going to stop, no matter how good the industry becomes. or how much you want it to stop.

if you want to waste energy trying it is up to you thou, I won`t stop you. go for it ;)
in my case I just figured that I don`t have the energy to get angry over it, so I ignore it ;)

What are you talking about?

I think you've severely misunderstood the post.

Yes indeed. Hopefully there would be a virtual pause or stop button to extricate one from any difficulties.

<starts rocking in his rocking chair> Yeah, yeah. I totally agree about the reviews. I took a lot of chances and hit more often then miss, proudly enough. That was a lot to take a risk on for for $30 VHS tapes for a few episodes that were released so slowly. I was doing the original Hakkenden and Evangelion and it was murder. I prefer to be spoiled too tbh. Heh...I think we've earned it.
