So i've heard that crunchyroll has been refered to as a "censored" or something anime sight, um, what exactly is censoring :sweatingbullets:. Is it like it cuts out nudity/violence? Um, Im not really sure. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

You are correct. Crunchyroll gets the license for the TV Broadcast version, not the uncut. Meaning nudity is removed, excessive violence, excessive profanity. It sucks in some ways cause it can drastically alter some anime's stories.

While it is true that many of the shows that Crunchyroll simulcasts are censored, it's worth noting that it's not Crunchyroll that does the censoring, and that not all shows on Crunchyroll are censored. The censoring is done for broadcast on TV in Japan, and that's usually what Crunchyroll is able to get. When CR acquires something as a catalog title it is often the uncensored version.

Others have explained the types of content that is usually censored in the materials that Crunchyroll gets.

Uncensored content is usually reserved for airing on premium broadcast channels in Japan (people there pay extra for those channels), or for disc sales.

For the most part, yes. Very few shows on here are uncensored. Plus it tells you when they are (asks you to verify you're over 18).

Ok, and last question hopefully... Are censors used in fate/zero, hunter x hunter 2011, or parasyte maxim? (Animes i've watched on crunchyroll) or were they not needed?

Even some censored shows may require someone to be of appropriate age and have the "show mature content" filter on.

Usually the censoring is pretty obvious. Fog or beams of light will obscure nipples or butts--this is easily the most common censoring. Occasionally a towel will be inserted, or part of the screen will go blank (black or white). And sometimes shows will have fun with it; using pictures of elephants to block a penis or using an "approved content" sticker to block a butt or something.

But they don't change the dialogue or even the camera angles. And they don't cut out scenes like they do in the US; they just obscure the visuals.

Also, violence is rarely censored; it has to be pretty to damn extreme. But if blood spatters onto the camera obscuring what's happening behind it, that might be what's happening. The vast majority of censoring is nudity blocking.

So I guess my point is nto to worry too much about it. If the censoring didn't bother you at the time, then you really didn't miss anything.
