So I've been trying to change my membership type for the last couple of weeks now and have had no luck doing so and no answer to my support ticket either.

Basically I am a Premium+ member, but do not use any of the benefits of being a + member at the additional $5 a month. I originally signed up for it when you could only watch Drama with a + membership. After that got consolidated into the normal premium membership however many months back (which I was unaware of TBH), I've just been paying the extra $5 a month for no real reason (besides supporting you guys, but still).

Anyways, I want to downgrade because I only really pay to watch/stream and haven't used any of the other benefits either. I pay via PayPal every month, have been paying for + membership for the last 14 months and have been in touch before this billing cycle even started but still got charged my $11.95.

I tried changing it myself, but whenever I go to PayPal to confirm my subscription or whatever, I get redirected back to a 404 page on Crunchyroll.

I'm not that familiar with the PayPal process, but it sounds like you are trying to do this in essentially one step, and I believe when downgrading generally what you need to do is at least two steps:

1) cancel current membership
2) sign back up for regular premium membership (/premium_pick_plan?membership=premium)

Oh wow, I was in a similar boat due to Manga.

Sooo, I tried this, and now my Premium+ membership has been cancelled, but I'm still seeing a 404 when I try and sign up to Premium again. Poor, very poor :(

EDIT: So CR clearly thinks I still have a Premium+ account (despite me having an email stating it was cancelled with immediate effect), and my PayPal account still shows the recurring payment for Premium+ as being active

I would first go to PayPal and cancel the recurring payment: find and click the "gear" icon, scroll down to Payment Settings, and click the "Pre-approved Payments" link. From there click Crunchyroll, and on the details page there is a link to Cancel about three lines under the green word "Active"

Then wait out the remainder of your subscription period. Even though it says Immediately effective, CR still gives you the balance of your remaining days as a subscriber. People used to complain about not getting those.

Once that time runs out, then you can re-sub with the link from lorreen just above your post.

That kinda makes this option on the cancel screen completely useless then.

Cancel Premium+ Membership or Recurring Payments

Cancel Recurring Payments
Premium Membership features will remain active until the end of the billing cycle. After that time, your Premium Membership will be downgraded to a Free Membership.

Cancel Premium+ Membership
When canceling your Premium Membership, all Premium Membership features will cease immediately. We are unable to give refunds for partial months of membership that were remaining. You can sign up for a Crunchyroll Premium Membership any time afterwards, although you will not be eligible for another free trial if you used one previously.

If people wanted to keep their account active as premium until it expired, then they'd just need to select the first option there. I actually tried both, but I only got the email when trying the second option.

It's very poor to have people need to remember to come back and re-subscribe in order to change their subscription type. CR must get a lot of unintentional customer shrinkage that way.

I think that first option only works if you used a credit card. Pretty sure that Paypal works differently, because of authorization of the recurring payment amount isn't the same.

I've emailed support to see if they can verify the current state of my account and recurring payment... curiously, the support email I got no longer has "[PREMIUM]" in the subject line, so it seems that some of my premium status was indeed revoked.

I am exactly the same. Cancelled my membership to + because it wouldn't just let me downgrade. Then I just subbed with premium. Crunchy sent me an email that told me effective immediately, you will no longer be able to enjoy HD-quality video and early access to the hottest titles out there. I use my credit card to pay not paypal and sent a support ticket just wanting to make sure that I am not charged for my premium membership before the 2nd which is when my previous membership would have been renewed. It has been 6 days now and still no reply. Otherwise I think paying for the whole month but only getting 10 days is just bs.
