Depression rarely has one big direct reason. Suicide is tough though. It's a lot harder to do than people make it seem. Takes a lot of courage and the logistics of it are sometimes awkward if you don't have access to certain things like guns. I'd recommend thinking it through heavily if you ever get serious about it. Generally anyone who isn't serious about it wont think it through like that. Plus doing it on impulse can lead to failure and ultimately fuck you up more than death ever will. I'm not anti-suicide, but it's not something to do on a depressed whim.

^Pretty much this.

Despite how fragile a human life is (or perhaps because of it) when it come to suicide there is a lot that can go wrong and failure can lead to making the quality of life even worse and may also make it even harder to try again. If someone really wants to go through with it then it would be best to looking into methodology, rate of failure, send a lot of time planning, assessing the risk and if it's worth it, and thinking things over objectively, not really the kind of things to do on a whim.

Personally, as someone who goes through these thoughts daily (which I guess answers the OP's question), the thing that deters me the most is, "the odds are against you," and I can't afford to fail.

That's because the feeling of wanting to commit suicide is emotional, not logical.

Depending on how one views life and what one thinks come after it, what one thinks the value of it all is.

From a certain angle, it is a logical option - but many people won't approach it like that. Human beings (or all living things, really) are hard-wired to avoid death. So, it is important not to make any assumptions about the person, their situation, or their views, I think.

I've been suicidal frequently in the past, and my problems are quite permanent. People saying that my problems are temporary always made me feel worse, drove me closer to the edge.

Idle bodies make terrible mistakes. Find something to occupy your time if possible. If that doesnt help ill just leave this here. Also you realize if you kill yourself you wont be able to play Final Fantasy XV next year, right?

Emptied the quote considering I'd rather not get reported. Kept hearing about it but didn't realize you could buy that online. Certainly changes things.

Hang in there, the feeling will go away.. We all been there. Taking your own life isn't the answer to solved your problem.. :/ That like cutting off your leg because you got ingrown toe nail!

Don't dwell too much on it, watch movie or anything to keep your mind off of the depressing feeling.

I've thought of suicide before. But not anymore, I met someone that is special to me and I don't want to leave her alone.
You need to find a reason to live.

I know this feeling. Belive me, you are not alone. Everyone will at some point in their lives (most of the time this happens in "younger years") face a period of depression and thoughts of commiting suicide. You are not alone, there is nothing wrong with you and you are not a bad person for having these thoughts.

I wish I could tell you more but I know nothing of your history or your life, I can only tell you that this is something everyone faces at one point or another.

This is an important remark. These thoughts are triggered by "something" on an individual level, just thinking "it will pass" is a dangerous attitude because you might be suppressing an inner ambition, suicidal thoughts can very well be a symptom of unfulfilled ambition.

Roadmonster is right. So if you don't know what to do op, Talk to someone. If you feel like you need SERIOUS help then talk to a shrink, not a councillor. I thought about doing that before although I realized I was too strong minded for that.. then again, I had some deep questions about life that I wanted to discuss with a shrink
