There's going to be a lot of unemployed long-haul truck drivers in the next 10 years.

A lot of big trucks are already programmed to drive back and forth without someone at the wheel.

Uh, what?

Sensor packs still have a very long way to go right now, they can't "see" motorcycles yet.

Let's have some funny videos shall we?

I have no idea what he's talking about either (no disrespect, good sir knight). It's like an episode of The Simpsons come to life.

This is tech I have a significant personal interest in, but you're right: there are safety concerns that cannot be ignored. I don't think the tech, let alone the world's infrastructure, are prepared for these yet.

Trust me, they aren't ready for prime time. I've used some bleeding edge tech and let me tell you, when it fucks up, it fucks up. I had a collision avoidance system detect something that wasn't there and fire off a full panic stop at 70mph in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully the road was dry, otherwise I would have wrecked. That's another thing, these systems don't handle bad weather, or any weather well yet, and even with ABS, you'll have issues that you wouldn't believe.

And maintenance? Oh lordly, yeah don't get me started on that.

Oh, you mean haul trucks? Yeah, haul trucks don't have to worry about mentally retarded people cutting them off and brake checking them when they drop their iphones.

You brake check a haul truck, and you get to meet the god you hold closest to your heart.

So all it would take to scuttle these things is a good rain or snow storm or an unexpected deer? You have to start somewhere, I guess.

Wouldn't even see the deer. Good chance that the deer would also take out the front sensor and then the fun really begins. System also currently doesn't have brake temps as well. So going down a grade might cause runaways, because they also use a special kind of automatic transmission that doesn't hold the truck back as well as a manual with engine brake.

I've also had a truck jump the speed governor before as well. Truck reported a speed of 30mph both on the speed and the computer when it was going well over that.

As far as politics go, VZ, you and I agree on somewhere between Jack and shit. But I'll tell you, between your love of alcohol, willingness to examine public records with scrutiny, and experience, I'm willing to hear you out pretty much all the time.

Thanks for the input. No bullshit. You're saving lives right now.

Really? A thin sheet of baking foil thwarts the entire system? God. Fucking. Damn. It.

All the eyes are are radar systems, some are a little more complex, or use a different system, but if a road curves fast and hard, the metal k-rail will be detected as a wall.

Naw because the road turns left or right, not throw it into a panic stop.

Oh, shit. You mean it interprets it as a 90 degree corner, not a contoured wall that curves according to whatever function it actually does?
