I went on a big manga kick about a month ago, and Solanin was one of the titles that started it off. It was a hell of a ride. It reminded me a bit of Welcome to the NHK, in that the treatment of the plot is so realistic: some of the content is really serious, but it never gets melodramatic. No matter what they're going through, the characters still have to deal with their day-to-day lives, and I suppose it's that dullness even in the middle of what happens that makes it so compelling.

This was made into a movie with Aoi Miyazaki in it. I liked the movie, but haven't read the manga yet.

The logic in me screams at times, like "What the hell are you doing with your life...!!", but I guess to live is to learn, scraping first through the bottom to figure out what it is that makes you happy.

Read it years ago, still one of my favorites. Asano's art is just top notch stuff.

I read it about a year or so ago and I loved it. I'd recommend it to anyone who is on the fence about it.
The story and characters are just so realistic it's easy for the reader to find themselves in the character's shoes. For me, that's a plus.

Yes, definitely a good series. Although, I can see why some people can be conflicted with the ending, but it's all part of one big lesson of life that makes it great!

There is an Anime out right now called "The Perfect Insider" and the character design is done by the same author of Solanin, so I recommend checking it out and if you are already watching it, then that's great!
