slowdanse right, thats what i'm read in the book, but i still convince that there some people out there who realize that they have alter ego, but there's also people who know what MPD means and make it as an excuse for bad things they'd done, thats why, there is a "unguilty because insanity" phrase.

Everyone has a bit of an alter ego.. or at least one in mind. Hm.. using MPD as an excuse for doing bad things? Well then, doesn't that just mean they don't really have it and they are well aware of that?

So are you comparing an alter ego with MPD/DID?

i've got a theory that i'm currently testing but always end up in failure...

it goes like this... repress all forms of emotion except for the hypocritical smiley face... after a few years of people bashing you and treating you like a doormat you'll eventually develop a personality or more... I am legion, for I am many... wahahaha

I studied a case on MPD for my Psychology As level, and it was the first study ever reported, the psychologists were Thigpen and Cleckly, the subject was Eve White/Eve Black/Jane (and several other reported aliases).

I don't disbelieve it (ah crap, double negative!), but it sounded very farfetched (mind you, the psychologists were sexist, and made comments about how they liked Eve Black)

It's very difficult to diagnose as well, as most people these days will bullshit others to get away with anything...

...yeah, I'm tired and just tried to contribute. But badly.

Oh, and slowdanse is right. Schitzophrenia is not MPD.

The facts about MPD...
As My father's Best friend (may he rest in peace) had 37 different personalities inside him.
The difinitive factor in making it an illness, is that some or all of the personalities don't know the others exist.
Mike had many people inside him due to severe trauma as a child.
It is a very real and very serious illness.
As to the comments about everybody has MPD, yes in essence everybody has a mild form of it... different "faces" we put on for different situations, but the difference between normal psychological responses and the actuall illness, is that most people are aware of thier actions during the personality changes.

example:
I'm not comfortable around large groups of people
When i do get around large groups of people my personality alters so that i become "fake" i get the plastic smile and shmoose people to the best of my ability.
I am compeltely aware of every action and word i say and do.

an example of MPD:
Mike was visiting our house one day as himself, Mike. We all decided to go swimming and he got a phone call from his ex wife, he took the call outside sitting on the patio.
You could see the shift in him. it was a physical thing.
He went from being this fun-loving guy to a very scared little boy. we couldn't get him to go into the water, he kept referring to me as his sister, and my dad as his dad... my actual sister came home in the middle of this and he tried to beat her up (my dad's a big guy, he stopped him)
but we had to call the hospital, we didn't know what to do with him... when the doctor showed up, he was clinging to me... (i was 12 at the time) and the doctor told me to play along with this and treat him as a sister would... after a couple of hours, he slid into another personality, but this one was similar to his own, and was friends as well with my dad.

Mike had a very severe case of it...
Most MPD sufferers only have between 10 and 20 personalities.
