Lobbying isn't a problem in itself. Everyone should be able to lobby the government, that's part of how the government knows the will of the people. Problems start when large corporations and special interests begin to wield too much influence, to the detriment of society at large.

The system relies on having good honest people in office. Government is only as good as the people who run it. I think limiting the influence of money on elections is a good way to make sure candidates are not beholden to lobbyists before they even take office. There are certainly other things we could do as well, but the system will never be perfect.

Some amount of corruption is inevitable, but we can tolerate it as long as government fulfills its purpose of representing all citizens and running the important business of the country. Right now that is not happening, and something needs to be done about it.

lobbying isn't a one country problem... Just look at TPP and the absolute horse crap that is, it just takes rights away from people in the EU and US while giving companies more rights to push down the people

Getting money in elections is at least identifiable before and during time in office, due to the need to report where your financing is coming from. What currently goes on, though, is that you play ball with the lobbyists, and you get a cush lobbying job after your time in office.

That's also a problem. The system is rigged from the start, middle and finish. That being said I do think politicians should be able to use their experience to land good jobs after finishing their time in office, as long as they do good work while they are representing the people.

Currently to get elected (and reelected) you have to raise an absurd amount of money, and toe the line. If you don't that money will go to a more pliable candidate. This assures that most of congress is bought off before even taking office. Then once you are in your top priority is securing the next election cycle.

One reason I think campaign finance is such a big issue is that it makes it nearly impossible for people of character to get elected in the first place. Since the system can only be fixed from the inside, nothing can change until we deal with the elections.
