I usually tip like 99% of the time unless for some reason I'm completely broke, but it doesn't hurt to reward your waiter(ress).

I actually hate tipping and to be honest I don't really check if I tip the right amount. I just tip whatever and leave.

Noway, a town of 5 million. heh.

Lots of waitstaff make min wage + a tip. If you work in a state with a lower wage based on tipping, and don't make it back in tips, then your employer has to pay you up to min wage.

Yeah, just always think it is funny when people from other insult America. "We're so tolerant and sophisticated, yeah... you Americans are all stupid."

Yeah? Cool. Have fun with that. Call someone else the next time your asses are in a war you can't win, eh?

No, that's definitely crazy. However, I have done it. I mean, if I go eat a burger or breakfast at a small diner, and it costs $10...waiter is getting $5 if they did their job.

I feel like when you work in restaurant business you get a feel for what a tip should be but it goes both ways with service as well for me always 20% is my standard

I feel like this varies greatly depending on where you live. Like, I go to (insert franchise here). My bill is like $50... If they did their job they'll get 15-18%. That's at least 7.50. That's just from my table, for an hourish of their time. So, they're getting $3something, plus my $7.50... plus tips from other tables... per hour. They are making more money than me, at that point, for carrying food and writing down an order. Around here, skilled labor has trouble making as much as waiters and waitresses do in tips.... So, I don't feel bad for them.

I know people who've gone from a profession with a bachelors back to waiting or bar tending, because it makes more money around here.

However, I know where I live is a bit unusual, in this sense. I would be all for fair wages, and not feeling pressured to tip. They do it in most places in Europe, and it works. Tipping is just kind of tradition at this point, and it would be hard to make the switch.

I only tip if I can afford it, and taxes are what keeps the government alive.
