A Smelting / Mining / Banking CO. (Sumitomo ) going to do anime?

It is a trickle down trail of companies ! Why you ask ?Sumitomo got burned in their regular ventures and seeking new investments.

This a wait and see what happens ! With Funimation ( Dimension W ) and now CR trying to do anime wiil we will get better anime ? How Will the Japan anime companies feel ? If you start taking away business from the Japan Production Houses will they revolt ? I guees small steps at first !

Funimation is trying one anime and are already hooked up with Universal a true media company not venture capital businees !

It's great to see an expansion, but I hope they aren't losing sight of the need to reinvest some of that money into the site as well. Because it's been due for an over-haul for years.

They also need to hire more support staff- nobody has gotten anything except canned email responses now for a long long time, and technicians to fix all the persistent issues with the various streaming apps.

This. Just this.

I think that they need to really develop the community and community experience. I can see that they are trying with some of the side projects like the contest with Hime's Corner and a couple of SailorBee's stuff, but if crunchyroll is really trying to be that defacto Anime place, which is oh so apparent with the store and news and such, the real action is at the community and the engagement of the community. Sad that the volunteer staff have to carry the burden and such. It should be strong enough that it enough pulls people from the "Darkside" into doing discussions here.

Happy to see crunchy's progress as I've been a fan for a while now. Hope to see more activity on these parts.

I totally agree with you guys, I've already been talking about it over here:

Hopefully this deal also means that they'll look more inward and improve the site itself.

By 700,000 subscribers, do they mean currently active or unique subscribers since last year? Quite a difference there.

It says "paying" subscribers, so presumably it means active. The last time they said anything, it was 400,000 active subscribers, so I would hope they'd still be using the same metric.

If this is something like Crunchy going "Hey Trigger, want to make another LWA episode without going to kickstarter and have it as a CR exclusive?" Then, great!
If it's "Here are popular NA shows, make something like this." Then screw all of that. NA animation and comics are almost uniformly terrible. Europe does a little better, France has some okay stuff, nothing that can really compete with Japan though.

Just came to say good job Crunchyroll. Just saw ads for this site on MAVTV (an all car/motorsport channel here in the USA) and BBC America during Doctor Who. Hopefully, they can start showing up on NBC, Fox, and their affiliates during NFL games and NASCAR races.

Also, maybe we can finally get a Hatsune Miku show that all my vocaloid-loving friends have been begging for.

Funny how I and some of us talked about legal anime streaming over 16 years ago and what are the means so they can counter other sites..to be succesfull.

and that they should continue to do work on it becuase it is still a threat , they need to work on how to keep the paying consumer happy and work on getting more territories.
