Hey guys, so would you be OK with pirating anime that is neither on Crunchyroll or Funimation? If you had a subscription to both what would you do? I am not asking for advice but rather for opinion.

I'm definitely not a moral cop; I've done very questionable things in the past (and present).

Illegal sources of anime are the reason I got into anime in the first place. Many years ago I randomly started watching inuyasha somewhere on the internet, definitely not a legit sources.
By now I have 100+ dvds and an active subscription to crunchyroll since many years. I'd say the anime industry should thank those streaming sites for getting me into this. I mean I would never have spent a single € if it were not for those streams I watched on random sites so so many years ago.

By now I certainly avoid those streaming sites, waaay too many ads and bad quality. Crunchyroll is way better :p

Fun fact: It's the same with some computer games. The ones I by now spent the most money on (having 5 copies of the game and tripple digit kickstarter crazes; Supreme Commander and Planetary Annihilation) mainly had my interest because like 12 years ago somebody gave me a pirated copy of Total Annihilation, which SupCom and PA are based on.

Same with music. When I was a poor scholar I certainly pirated tons of albums from the bands I like. I like them even today, but nowadays I buy their stuff.

So based on that, I'd say there is an argument in "piracy isn't all bad"´.

I do pirate things when I am not given a way to pay for it. If I see a way to pay however I do it by now. I am not a poor scholar anymore and I like to support things I enjoy.

For me that´s nichijou. I have a premium account here, but funimation is only for Americans, not us Europeans, and so is half the series here. I watch about 10 series this season on an alternative streaming site *couch couch*. I would be very extremely depressed if that were impossible as I could not watch 90% of series I want to. I am also almost 100% sure the entire , big, anime fandom in the Netherlands would be gone basically in 1-2 months. It´d be an apocalypse.

Luckily it will never ever happen.

If the marked doesn't provide me with my desire. I will find a way to get what I desire then.

I wouldn't even consider it. My personal philosophy is "If I can't get it legally, I won't get it at all". I'm happy to go without a few shows that I probably wouldn't like anyway if it means I don't compromise my morals. Same deal with every form of media.

Buuuuuuuuut this is the internet, and an anime fandom forum, so I don't really expect to see many other people with the same philosophy as me. Oh well.

My own. I consider them just, and I do not think they are worth anyone's judgement. They are far from corrupt, but they don't fit a conservative or gracious persons viewpoint by any means. Obviously I'm not going to state them all, that would take up too much space and consume too much time.

I'll stream from dubious and shady sources, but if I like a series enough to want to keep it forever, I'll pay for it.

I believe rightfulness and wrongfulness is not simply either-or. It's a spectrum. There are degrees of rightfulness and wrongfulness. I also believe that circumstances justify choices and make certain decisions right or wrong. No absolute black-and-white morality.

The only thing I feel bad about pirating is Music because they actually give you legal options. Where as most anime is no where to be found legally or if it is, its completely overpriced and ridiculous.

As for actual morals, I believe in Karma and other Buddhist philosophies. But aside from that just be fucking nice people, the words you say have a huge impact on a person.

If I really like a show then I might pirate it until I can purchase a legal copy for myself. If I don't love it, I can live without it. It took me a long time to get the series for Noir but I finally located a DVD set for less than $100. Totally worth it.

I still pay for music and video games but i stopped with anime, aside from crunchy roll subscription that is.
I do feel guilty sometimes but theres so much anime and alot of average anime.
I just cannot afford it. I used to rent anime all the time from video rental stores, then i did start to buy anime and i bought alot(American imports and locally released ones).
I stupidly bought alot of Chinese bootlegs which i regret. Threw half of them out. (bad subtitles, bad quality, episodes missing or out of order, etc)..
After a while i just torrneted everything.
Yes i do feel some guilt but i cant afford to buy dvds.
