GTO. I really had no idea what to do with my life after high school and I randomly watched GTO, while I did I thought about how much my teachers have affected my life, how the good ones encouraged me, and the bad ones just set me up to pass exams. It made me think that maybe I could be a good teacher and give others the encouragement to be more than they think they can.

I haven't watched one that would affect me or something that I could relate to, but I have heard from a buddy that NHK would be the one that would get me. Gotta check it out.

It has to be Clannad/Clannad Afterstory

It is not my 'favourite anime' but to me it is definitely the 'best' anime.

If you haven't seen it, you need to see the bluerays and watch in sub.

Monster Rancher. The show is surprisingly deep and is chock full of a majestically hopeful and courageous outlook on the world. The characters work as a team and fight on no matter what. Genki especially never gives up, always keeps fighting, and never lets anyone down.

Plastic Memories.

Not just because I am a softy and a romantic at heart, but because I am a cancer survivor. I had it as a teenager and I was on death's doorstep at one point.

That series coupled with life experiences just makes you realize how important memories of people places and things can be. I still to this day do not let a lot of people into my life. But the people I do I cherish. Some day I want that kind of love too... some day.

Okay my bad. I must be getting you confused with somebody else. I will say Clannad would be fine for you. Don't watch After Story though.

I don't think 1 specific anime changed me, but rather my experience watching as a whole. I think i would be a very different person today if i never started. I feel like it gave me a greater perspective on things, and made me a better person overall.

A light novel called Hakomari (utsuro no hako to zero no maria) did however affect me on a personal level. Explaining why would take way too much effort, so i'll just say the reason is that it's ridiculously good.

I think I've said this before once, but definitely Clannad and Code Geass.
Also, Angel Beats made me sign up as donor.
