Synopsis:

Okazaki Tomoya is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he'll never amount to anything. Along with his friend Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away.

One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Without warning, she exclaims "Anpan!" (a popular Japanese food), which catches Tomoya's attention. He soon discovers the girl's name is Furukawa Nagisa and that she exclaims things she likes in order to motivate herself. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing.

However, Tomoya finds he is noticing Nagisa more and more around school. Eventually he concedes and befriends her. Tomoya learns Nagisa has been held back a year due to a severe illness and that her dream is to revive the school's drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help her achieve this goal along with the help of four other girls.

As Tomoya spends more time with the girls, he learns more about them and their problems. As he attempts to help each girl overcome her respective obstacle, he begins to realise life isn't as dull as he once thought.

Thoughts:
No thread, guys? Seriously?! Well, here you go!

First off, if there is a thread with art and information about this series, then please feel free to report it or let me know so I can take this down! Also, this is just covering the first season and not after story, so if you want me to make one for after story or if anyone else wants to make it, then go for it!

Now, I know this series is a.....special one for most fans, so I just had to add it to the threads! This series was definitely an interesting one, especially for my heartstrings, haha. The series is definitely an emotional one, so if you are of the sensitive nature, then prepare tissues!

Have you watched this series? If not, will you check it out? I'd say give it a try and see how you like it! Let us discuss!!

Clannad After Story is far more moving than Clannad. But both are good series.

Clannad is definitely a special series for me. I was in a bit of a funk with my personal life at the time for various reasons, and watching it helped me gain some perspective.

It also launched me into an obsession with deeper slice of life type of series, which was a huge turning point for me since I only watched the really popular stuff like DBZ and Death Note until that point. And I started eating through couple series a week on fansub sites from then on. If it weren't for Clannad I would have continued to be a much more casual western fan who only watched Toonami dub type of stuff. And I definitely wouldn't be here on Crunchyroll to talk about it! haha

Ah yes, Clannad, my favorite anime of all time.

No other series has spoken so closely to the soul as this show did. It changed me.

No other series can be so funny and heartwarming, yet so emotionally devastating, and all-the-while teaching you about life and the meaning of family.

It achieved what almost no other anime dared to do and went beyond the bounds of highschool and dating and into the thick of the struggle of living, not just for yourself but for the people you care about.

And it fucking nailed it.

I don't think another story quite like it will ever come along. And thats fine by me.

This was the third anime I ever watched and was amazing. For the first two years of anime watching it was the best and most emotional thing I had ever watched. This has only changed recently with newer shows like Usagi Drop and Shigatsu wa Kim no Uso that have come out.

This show had a really large impact on me and my anime watching; on how anime can be more than mediocre action shows about dudes punching other dudes in the face. I got to see an amazing character driven story with fantastic animation and one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. This show really opened my eyes on what anime could be rather than what it is and a big reason why I probably ended up watching a whole lot more.

Good anime. Didn't give me a feels trip like people say it does though. Enjoyed the first well enough, but the second was better to me. Seemed to cleanup everything and just improve on the series overall. Would recommend it to anyone trying to get into anime or someone looking for a quality series to watch.

Can we talk about how bad the English dub is though?

If there was one thing I could change, I would vanquish that dub from the face of the earth.

And I'm not just saying that as a sub elitist. Look at my MAL tags. I've seen like 50 or 60 dubs and this has to be one of the worst...

Ugh, now I'm having flashbacks to "Nageeesa" and Greg fucking Ayres...

I have a similar story, but with Fruits Basket. I was always the "Shonen Fanboy" until I spread out and watched different genres. Besides action and adventure, I love supernatural, mystery, and romance.....and go ahead and add sci-fi as well, lol.

AH yes my favorite series of all time. But since we are talking about Clannad only and not after story. I'd like to say that despite the super slow pacing the first season did, it allowed characterization for Okazaki and lots of relationship building happened during the first series.
I know a lot of people just want to skip straight to after story for the feels but no. If you plan to watch this, stick through the first series. It will be worth the wait.

Also all the fun stuff happens in the first series. Like Kyou being...having a bicycle

I think this was one of the better adaptations of a VN because they incorporated most of everyone's route into the story while also connecting it to the final route in a way. Anyways I loved every bit of this series.

Also one of my favorite parts of the first series.

Tomoyo vs. Kyou

The Urls I posted aren't necessarily spoilers but fun moments in the series.

I think I've seen only one dub worse: High School DxD. It made the show far more pervy than the subbed version.
