I have been thinking about how i grew up on anime, i would set on Saturdays mornings and watch ronin warrior, ten-chi, dragon ball z, etc etc. but i really didn't get into anime till i watched the movie princess mononoke. when i watched that i started getting actively looking for new anime, anime movies and such. so what started it for you?

I got interested in anime because of pokémon, but I thought that the pokémon anime looked kind of terrible, so I watched a different one instead. I decided to try Lucky Star because I didn't know where to start it was pretty popular, but I didn't get the references at the time, so I didn't really like it and I moved on to Haruhi and Azumanga Daioh.

For me it was the whole Afternoon cartoons on Kids WB, watching Pokemon and YuGiOh, and Megaman NT Warrior. But that disappeared, and in place came the Saturday blocks, with Shaman King, Ultimate Muscle, with Pokemon and YuGiOh as well along side it. The only reason I ever woke up early on Saturdays were to watch those shows. That, combined with Shonen Jump manga, I was basically raised on anime.

I run out of new "What was your first anime?" ways to post about Dirty Pair (ah, the days of laserdisc rooms, comic-convention tables, and college clubs), but if it keeps it alive enough to sell a few more disk sets at RightStuf, I'll have done my job.

And besides, no Halloween viewing at all this week is complete without the Halloween Party episode--That's where it started for me:

It's hard to say. Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball were some of my favourite shows growing up, but I didn't consider them anime, because I didn't know what that meant. They were just two of many cartoons I enjoyed, like Ninja Turtles. So when I grew out of "kids' shows," I pretty much stopped watching animation altogether.

For years I didn't watch anime, and then in high school a friend recommended Bleach. It renewed my interest and got me thinking of animation as more than just silly kids' shows. I've regularly watched anime and read manga ever since.

So you could say it all started as a kid, when my female friends and I would play Sailor Moon and pretend broken bicycle reflectors were crystals. Or you could say it all started with Bleach, which was what made me reconsider animation and choose anime as a hobby.

When I was younger I used to watch Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! when it came on TV but that didn't start it for me. It was about 2-3 years ago actually. I was hanging out with some older friends and they would always talk about anime. It was kinda awkward because I couldn't really say much so after that day I decided to try it out. I looked up something super generic on google like "good anime" or something like that and Naruto caught my eye. Watched a few episodes and bam! Now I've quit my 24/7 gaming days and replaced it with anime.

I feel like people sigh & shake their head every time I post something like this because a lot of the answers I've been giving lately are Naruto. I mean look at my username what do you expect? Oh well, but yeah that's how it happened.
