I don't think Caitlyn Jenner is a good pick for Woman of the Year. For one thing, she's homophobic and she seriously needs to check her white privilege.

Why not make Laverne Cox Woman of the Year? She's a great person, and she gets involved with things like #blacklivesmatter and #transisbeautiful.

You people need to get it in your head that Trans Women = Women

I'd want to kill myself if I won some stupid award like that. I'd probably sue for defamation, too. Imagine what your grandchildren would think when they discover that you won such a stupid award.

I was about to give a fuck, but then I realized... It's a glamour magazine. How shallow do you have to be to care about what something as menial as that thinks. The only reason they probably even gave her that, was to spark controversy to sell more copies of their magazine.

oh wow, look at all the transphobia in here. color me not surprised.

also, lmao @ people saying Caitlyn has been a woman for less than a year. she was always a woman, transgender people don't just magically become their desired gender overnight they are always mentally that gender. kind of what makes us transgender.

while coming out as transgender was incredibly brave of Caitlyn I am not sure if she deserves woman of the year. Laverne Cox has done more for pioneering for trans rights than Caitlyn and I would much rather she win something like this. oh well though, so it goes.

It's not transphobia to think someone shouldn't get woman of the year when she killed someone this year.
No, but constantly referring to her as a him, using trans phobic slurs, mocking their transitioning is. People don't need to throw all trans people under the bus to criticize this person's credentials

Honestly, I'd be fine with this if she were a woman for at least a year. Its been like 7 months or something, right?

Minus like 2-3 months off what you said.

I'm gonna be blunt here so excuse my rudeness. Why do we even have a "Woman of the year" and why do we even make a big deal out of it? Also, what did Caitlyn Jenner do to deserve this noteworthy "title"? I could careless about this whole Caitlyn Jenner biz so mind my ignorance, but he/she seems to be getting a lot of reception mostly due to his/her struggle with his/her sexual identity, and apparently people not knowing that there are other people besides him/her that deal with some type of sexual identity crisis daily.

I agree, theres a lot more people in the world dealing with the same situation, but no one cares because they aren't famous

How does one objectively determine if their - or someone else's - mind is male or female?

'mind' is not entirely the right word since that is the non-physical aspect of it and you can't objectively prove the mind but if you want to observe whether a brain is male or female you can observe that empirically because the brain is a sexed organ and they develop differently in males/females. In the cases of transgender/transsexual people you can observe how their brain develops and certain areas activate more in line to their desired gender rather than to their birth sex.

In a first-of-its-kind study, Zhou et al. (1995) found that in a region of the brain called the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BSTc), a region known for sex and anxiety responses, MTF transsexuals have a female-normal size while FTM transsexuals have a male-normal size. While the transsexuals studied had taken hormones, this was accounted for by including non-transsexual male and female controls who, for a variety of medical reasons, had experienced hormone reversal. The controls still retained sizes typical for their gender. No relationship to sexual orientation was found.

In 2009, UCLA researchers used MRIs to examine a mixed sample of 24 non-hormone-treated male-to-female transsexuals (6 were androphilic, and 18 were gynephilic), comparing them with 30 non-transsexual males and 30 non-transsexual females. The results "revealed that regional gray matter variation in MTF transsexuals is more similar to the pattern found in men than in women," except for the "right putamen.". They concluded that "These findings provide new evidence that transsexualism is associated with distinct cerebral pattern, which supports the assumption that brain anatomy plays a role in gender identity."

there are more studies than those on the brain of transgender/transsexual people, but basically, the physical make-up of the brain affects the mentality of the person causing them to experience gender dysphoria and they may or may not choose to identify as transgender. that's the theory with most supported data at least. you can't do these types of tests on everyone though, but you get the gist i'm sure.

Your born as a male or a female and no amount of plastic can change that just like no amount of plastic can turn furries into an actual animal. A man was just chosen as "woman of the year"... Just imagine telling that to the women that stood up and fought for their right to vote or to be treated as equals and how scathing their response to that would have been.

Can y'all calm your tatas a bit? I don't condone those claiming trans women aren't "real women". But let's face the facts. Caitlin won the award because the entire voting process appears to be a glorified popularity contest. There are probably woman out there a lot more proactive than Caitlin, who were slighted because they weren't famous and/or trans.

On another note, who is so easily offended that a few people have misgendered her anyway, y'all need to learn to lighten up. If Caitlin feels so offended by the misgendering fine, but you don't have to be offended for a celebrity, if anything it's sheerly stupid to be offended at that, basically celeb worship? Like your life is so boring that you have to get offended over some jokes and the usage of the word tranny? Even Caitlin herself wasn't offended by the fact that there exists a "Caitlin Jenner" costume, so why should you be so offended, especially if you're responding to someone's obvious satire and troll bait, feeding them to taunt you further? Lolllll. Some of you wad and defecate in your training diapers at the smallest little indiscretions.
