Out of about 20 given reasons why a clique of fans think that all of anime begins, ends and revolves around EVA, I can think of exactly two that actually have to do with the show itself.
The rest have to do with it coming out in '97-'99, when we were just finding out about this stuff.

Opinions, man. They come to define us. Though I should preface by saying I don't hate SAO, so much as I hate how much praise it gets when there are plenty better things to watch. Nice profile pic btw

How could they fuck up a giant robot anime so much. Mind you, I was buying the VHS tapes when they came out since that was the only way to see that shit back in the day. Shit, was it 1996? 97?

Really I don't care, I do remember selling the tapes on ebay before they required you to have a CC and could send in a money order for payment.

This painfully slow, forced humor, forced "sadness", forced "cuteness", super-cliche, loli-moe infested tripe that is -

...And the overly dramatic, painfully forced melodrama, highly cheesy and cliche, moe-blob shit filled with toddler-brained submissive women that followed it up -

You want a truly sad, moving and heartbreaking anime with powerful social themes and commentary? Watch Now and Then, Here and There.

You want a highly developed, unique, moving, very realistic, funny and touching romance series that deals with real-life issues and has actual character development over the years? Both the manga and anime of Maison Ikkoku are for you.
