Here's a compromise: end the absurd censorship in the Japanese porn industry, crack down on loli.

^yeah cannot beleive they still censor porn..

Anyways, why ban it? it's not like its hard to avoid. if you dont want to see it, dont go out of your way looking. If you happen to come across it, close the web site or what not.
Simple really.
Plus, maybe looking at loli prevents some people from actually doing something very wrong in the real world?

I will take the un seirously when they actually do something about member nations that employ child soldiers, actually require all member nations treat women as human beings and not chattel, enforce the ban against the use of chemical weapons, make all member nations adopt and live by the international code of human rights, ect ect and so on.
Porn is jist way low on the list of what the un should be doing. You know like pinishing a certain nation for shooting down a civillian airliner and killing over 100 innocent civvillians. I did say KILLING them. Do not pass Go do not collect. They are dead. Not raped not displaced not offended by a "trigger" DEAD.
Seriously the west really needs to get a grip and get their priotities streight. SMH.

Oh man look someone in an important position is expressing their opinion that disagrees with ours!

Let's immediately hate on it because it might possibly infringe on things we like!

The person's job, who is proposing this, is a "U.N. special rapporteur on child prostitution and pornography". They aren't involved with the military and "peace keeping" side of things. Plus her stuff will be going through the Human Rights Council of the U.N.

Also the person is trying to have Japan crackdown harder on sex offenders in the country. A suggestion from her was to stop "extreme child pornographic content".

She investigated something and presented the facts (At least what she found as fact). Then offered her own suggestion about it.

Please understand the source then make comments.

^dose not change the fact that if youdont like it, dont look at it. Dose not mean you have to ban it.
Same old story as with everthing that someone complains about (rap music, violent video games, etc)
If the Japanese were religious they could just say its part of their religion and it would be untouchable then.

An incompetent bureaucrat displaying said incompetence - I understand perfectly fine the source. She's arguing that loli hentai is somehow partly responsible for attacks or they reinforce flippant attitudes that surround attacks. I would love to see a peer reviewed paper with some degree of empirical evidence she's basing such a belief on. Once again, she may help be responsible for removing one of the viable outlets that prevents children from being attacked by jumping the gun.

Equally, stiffer penalties don't do anything to solve the problem of pedophilia as it's reactionary in nature and not proactive. Instead, campaigns that seek to find healthy outlets and treat the individuals that suffer it should be the first resort - with high levels of confidentiality and no repercussions for seeking help (registry/watch list) as the stigma alone could destroy many if published/leaked preventing them from seeking help. Somehow suggesting that these are people that need help before they do something bad is now a controversial opinion because dehumanizing to further political careers has become the go to action.

By vilifying without offering assistance to those that need it, you end up with clusters of sick individuals that reinforce one another. Without an outside voice to guide and keep them from going off the rails they may start to enforce dangerous behavior and progress their illness.

Politicians love this tactic because they can look tough on crime while pushing those at risk away from safety nets that would give them a fighting chance. When they commit a crime the politician can then turn around and go "see, I was totally right!"

Note what she recommended: fixing poverty and gender quality - it will do absolutely nothing to help with attacks against children.

Does Japan have problems with sexual exploitation of minors? Absolutely. I find the solutions recommended pathetic and her analysis of the core cause daft at best.

No, they would not be untouchable. Religions that require a human sacrifice are illegal even in the US for example which touts religious freedom. Those that believe they are waging holy wars such as ISIS would use religion for justification but we dismiss it as well.

I agree with the "you don't like it, don't view it" mentality as we are talking fictional characters. Only with direct evidence that it is causing an increase in attacks against children, and not what many believe is likely the inverse would I ever think of potentially instituting a ban. It should be with great caution that censorship is ever placed on the table lest it set a bad precedent that is hard to overturn.

Preach brother, preach, don't really care about the second part since the idea of saying it would be untouchable if religion was somehow incorporated is stupid to say the least, but the first part was very well written, and I enjoyed taking my time to read it good sir!

won't hurt to include it and it won't hurt if they make their request in private too. a lot of people would rather not hear about every little shit they have on their list that i doubt they'll get through. though i'd rather pedos get their fix looking at anime porn rather than other means. hopefully the closeted pedos can stay closeted for as long as possible.

Nice job at trying to infringe upon Japan's rights as a nation. Japan is right to have basically told them to "fuck off" in the past, and I hope they continue to do so.

The UN is much like the US congress. All talk and pointless actions that are meant to distract us from the main issues.

lol well the Muslims use their religion alot in my counrty to be able to do things that we have to be sensitive towards even though it creates double standards and potenial security risks and ETC. But thats another story.
But your correct, we dont let them have multiple wives or child brides here, BUT, in their own counrty they can pretty much do what the f**k they want.
Except terrorism. Its their country, if they want to treat women like shit and excute people(in the fashion that they do), its their choice.
So i guess religion aside, Japan should be able to have what ever laws that they want.
It was right for them to ban the creation of child porn (due to continued pressure from the US) in 1999 though.
And they only fairly recently banned the possession too right?
Cool, but animated is entirely different.
Anyways..
I guess Muslims kind of piss me off so thats why i mentioned religion.

Haha valid points, my thought process just completely differentiates japan from any fanatic middle eastern country, that's why I said it was stupid to incorporate religion. Also thats crazy to think child pornography was allowed at a certain point in time. Do you know the extent to which it was being produced that made the US pressure them to ban it or was it just a general thing that the US felt Japan needed?

And the UN can screw right off with that bull. Loli is about as dangerous as Call of Duty.

Time to re-download Park Toucher Fantasy in protest.
