I have had an active paid subscription since May 2013. And for the first time I have a major complaint and am seriously considering canceling my paid subscription.

Crunchyroll's lineup has gradually been shifting more toward licensing anime shows that I as a 32 year old male have absolutely no interest in watching.

Where is One Punch Man? Overlord? Seraph of the End? Chivalry of a Failed Knight? Clearly I should have chosen a paid Hulu subscription because that is where all the shows I wanted to watch this fall are at.

I've seen a disturbing trend where Crunchyroll is licensing more and more pervy crap (mostly featuring lolis), to the point Anime De Training! Ex and Makuranodanshi is now on the service. And before that

I watch anime because I am a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy, and Japan happens to produce some very high quality fantasy and sci-fi stories. But for the past year it seems there hasn't been a single one of these series which hasn't been on Hulu at the same time it is on Crunchyroll, but Hulu would have shows Crunchyroll didn't show -- meanwhile Crunchyroll licensed Bottom Biting Bug, Wooser's Hand to Mouth Life and slice of life loli shows like Non Non Biyori and softcore porn harem shows like Life With Monster Girls.

To re-iterate my complaint is not the Crunchyroll has these shows, but that it has these shows at the expense of not having the sci fi / fantasy shows that I would have expected Crunchyroll to carry.

I don't expect Crunchyroll to carry every single anime, I realize it's selection must be specific, yet I have strong doubts as to whether the programming selections are in line with the platform's client base given 99% of all the popular shows in Crunchyroll's own "Popular" filter rankings are shonen anime and not bizarre niche interest shows.

I don't know what Crunchyroll's paid membership roster looks like but I suspect it is not primarily people who want to watch programming meant for grade school children or those who have a loli fetish.

If this happens one more season I'm likely to unsubscribe and switch to Hulu.

It's just what they can get licensing to.

This may not be true but i've heard that, basically, CR gets the last pick in shows for licensing, so maybe thats why?

Oh neat, this thread again.

Maybe because Hulu and Funimation outbids them or something? I always saw Hulu as the blockbuster anime renter these days, because they like what turns a profit. CR seems more focus on quantity than quality and picking at whatever Funimation is uninterested in. I don't know. I doubt even Lorreen knows, or MakotoKamui. And you're certainly not going to get an answer from support on why they licenses the shows they licenses. It's a mystery to me.

Also, Non Non Biyori>Overlord.

Exactly.

To OP, maybe it's not CR but just you. What I'm getting is "CR isn't matching my tastes anymore so everything on here is trash".

Seeing how CR just passed 700k paying members, I think they are doing something right.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Plus the licensing game is tough bro.

Clearly people need to watch more anime

Cool, this again. The "everything Crunchyroll licenses sucks because they didn't get my favorite type of anime" thread.

Btw: Lolita- a sexually precocious young girl.
Unless you think the children in Non Non Biyori are sexually attractive, or were meant to be sexually attractive (both of which I'd find disturbing to answer yes to), you are misusing the word loli.

According to a certain user on CR, a loli is anyone who has no Y chromosome.

No, I can understand. So many hyped up anime that are NOT on CR. I mean, I don't think Overlord is great, but it's definitely popular. One Punch Man? Licensed by Hulu. Never heard of Chivalry of a Failed Knight. Tokyo Ghoul? Not on Cr. Assassination Classroom. Psycho Pass.

I mean sure, we got Gintama, The Big 3, DRR, Parasyte,etc....

but I feel as if all the POPULAR (But usually mediocre) stuff is not on CR.

That's it. We're hipsters.
