I have had an active paid subscription since May 2013. And for the first time I have a major complaint and am seriously considering canceling my paid subscription.

Crunchyroll's lineup has gradually been shifting more toward licensing anime shows that I as a 32 year old male have absolutely no interest in watching.

Where is One Punch Man? Overlord? Seraph of the End? Chivalry of a Failed Knight? Clearly I should have chosen a paid Hulu subscription because that is where all the shows I wanted to watch this fall are at.

I've seen a disturbing trend where Crunchyroll is licensing more and more pervy crap (mostly featuring lolis), to the point Anime De Training! Ex and Makuranodanshi is now on the service. And before that

I watch anime because I am a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy, and Japan happens to produce some very high quality fantasy and sci-fi stories. But for the past year it seems there hasn't been a single one of these series which hasn't been on Hulu at the same time it is on Crunchyroll, but Hulu would have shows Crunchyroll didn't show -- meanwhile Crunchyroll licensed Bottom Biting Bug, Wooser's Hand to Mouth Life and slice of life loli shows like Non Non Biyori and softcore porn harem shows like Life With Monster Girls.

To re-iterate my complaint is not the Crunchyroll has these shows, but that it has these shows at the expense of not having the sci fi / fantasy shows that I would have expected Crunchyroll to carry.

I don't expect Crunchyroll to carry every single anime, I realize it's selection must be specific, yet I have strong doubts as to whether the programming selections are in line with the platform's client base given 99% of all the popular shows in Crunchyroll's own "Popular" filter rankings are shonen anime and not bizarre niche interest shows.

I don't know what Crunchyroll's paid membership roster looks like but I suspect it is not primarily people who want to watch programming meant for grade school children or those who have a loli fetish.

If this happens one more season I'm likely to unsubscribe and switch to Hulu.

Another way to fix this problem is to look up some of the shows you want to watch and Subscribe to the service that has the majority of your shows.

You sound like you hate this shit. Probably best to just bounce out and go elsewhere.

CR has always had a lot of pervy stuff. I remember watching an episode of Juden-chan years back, a show where the entire story is that a girl pisses on herself and it's played for sexy laughs. This content isn't new to CR and I don't think there's really metrics that back up them specifically licensing more of this stuff vs more of everything period.

Wait. People say that?

It's only one point on why people prefer fansubs over officialsubs.

I just stick with shitting on Funi because they seriously need an editor/TLC.

I could have sworn I answered this seriously before, but this appears to be a new thread. For the US you need to realize that it is a very competitive market. Also CR knows who watches what. So CR has a budget to spend on shows. They have to look at the viewer demographics they have. So they have to try and match the shows, budget with the viewer demographics. Also it would depend on WHO the US license holder is. For example Chivalry of a Failed Knight is held by Sentai Filmworks. Now I dont know if Sentai Filmworks made it available for open bid or offered it to the streamer at a fixed price. If it was an open bid then CR COULD have looked and said that since they got Anti-Magic Academy 35th Test Platoon and The Asterisk War that they could save the money and use it to buy more anime if it got over a certain bid price. I find that CR gets plenty good new anime each season. I would have loved Shomin Sample to be here, but it is in a place I can find and watch it. My big problem is finding out which service has the ones I want to watch. by the way if you are a paid subscriber you can request CR pick up a show.

WTF Crunchyroll
Where are my McRibs at? I don't want some shitty Pulled Pork Sandwich. And you're going to charge me extra for a McDouble dressed as a BigMac. Come on CR, you used to be better than that.

Off-topic: It isn't that expensive to have multiple streaming accounts, way cheaper than actual TV programs (Dish/DirectTV). Heck you don't have pay for a single account [granted you have to watch on your computer (most apps require a paid account) and a week(s) behind, except for Daisuki].

This may not be true but i've heard that, basically, CR gets the last pick in shows for licensing, so maybe thats why?

That's not true. Companies like Funimation and Hulu just have more money to throw their weight around so they typically get the exclusive deals. Crunchyroll likes to get quantity over quality.

I am anime trash so your trash is my treasure.

Also there is a lot of work involved in getting a license to stream a series, other deals with other companies maybe preventing Crunchyroll from gaining rights to stream certain series.
