I'd love to see how anyone masters nunchaku in 3 days. I spent two years and still prefer other weapons. Tonfa was way easier to learn and I didn't even need an instructor. Solid tonfa, not the pointless ones with ball bearings for spinning shows.

It isn't anything new like the article stated. I remember seeing officers with the weapon as far back as the early 90's. Also from what I remember when I talked to an officer, their training doesn't go much beyond how to safely swing the thing side to side among other minor things. Think of it like teaching someone how to cut and stab with a balisong and nothing more. None of them fancy knife tricks.

Personally I do agree that the amount of damage done by a nunchuck is much harder to control and thus one of its problems. Though how long it takes to learn is actually good, in Canada they are illegal because people hurt themselves with them enough. Further it is also useful since you can still use it in locks and holds.

Though as Morbidhanson mentioned tonfas are also a good option as well, I have actually trained with some police officers that use use them, and they are much easier to learn and control.

In regards to tasers, they have their own problems, if you hit someone in the wrong way or just in general, you can kill or give them brain damage.

Anyway, possible ways to counter nunchucks

Here is a possible defense against stun guns

though I can not conform its usefulness. However it would be interesting to see if sewing multiple worn out rain coats into your coat could get the desired effect.
However I am having trouble finding combat answers to tasers which is annoying.
