cr is too generous at the moment. it already attracts lots of folks to come on here yet they don't have a lot that are premium so i'm guessing they'll get the money from the sympathisers. not sure what this red youtube is about (don't care to find out) so i'm commenting on what's probable.

Everyone needs to calm the fuck down about youtube red, it won't change much and it probably will fail since it expects people to pay for something that has been free forever

Youtube red is a new subscription service for youtube where you can pay to get a spotify like music service inside youtube, in addition to allowing a subscriber to not see a single add. But that's not all, it'll also have some exclusive content from pewdiepie.... In all honesty the exclusive content is piss poor on youtube red

Sounds horrid. I don't even want to see pewdiepie's non-exclusive content

Pewdiepie isn't everything they have to offer as exclusive content, but their exclusive content in nothing that'll compete with Netflix, CR or any other streaming service. I honestly think youtube/google is going for the audiance that watches all these let's plays which is a big mistake on their part, since those who watch let's plays usually are just 12 or 13 and have no money to spend.

I also forgot to say that you can download youtube videos if you get a subscription, something you already can do with a simple plugin on your browser...

So this is like a region locking monthly pay wall thing? Sounds stupid. Hopefully it's American exclusive so I don't have to deal with it.

Too lazy to copy-pasta since you fail at linking.... but if I read the above post correctly... it seems this is some form of geographical content restriction dealy... thats lame yo

Sorry man. I'm on my kindle, and it's a pain to link things. Lol I'm being super lazy too.

Basically, if channels didn't sign up with YouTube on their RED service, those channels won't be available where the RED service is offered. Aka, North America right now. However, the biggest and most notable channel/company to not sign onto the RED service is ESPN. So they literally just pulled all of their videos off of YouTube in protest.

I'm just curious on how this affects the advertisers. Like did their premiums go up because of YouTube RED? Or are they expecting to reach less of their target audience?

I'm also curious about the channels who don't sign onto Youtube RED. How big of an impact does this make on their marketing department? Like Victor Entertainment, who releases a lot of promotional videos on YouTube...

I agree with you. It'll be interesting to see how this goes. Maybe it'll spark another video website into popularity and replace YouTube? Who knows.....but yeah. This is really frustrating. There's other ways to make money.

I think we're overdue for a replacement. Vimeo, step up your game!

Exactly. This could be a huge opportunity for vimeo and others. I honestly can't wait.

It's US only starting in a few days, however it'll have a global release starting early 2016. Google owns youtube and both have a internationell customer base, so doing something US only isn't worth it for them. Companies with a global presence never limits their income to just one market.

On the bright side nothing will change for you as a consumer/user of youtube since it won't be forced upon you. The only thing you won't be able to do is download videos offline to your phone or tablet (something you can already do with other apps just not officially from google and youtube), youtube's Spotify competitor in youtube and some exclusive content you probably don't want. Also add free watching... Something add block already provides...

Ummmm, as a consumer they just took away access to half the channels I watch and their videos. Even if I go Red they're gone. I've heard numerous reasons why we're losing them from the legal costs to allow a pay model in the U.S. for International companies to the companies being low-balled or even eliminated from advertising money due to "free trials". Others have said that the companies would have to surrender their advertising money for a smaller payday through user membership fees. No one is sure which of the cases are true or not but the fact that Youtube is blackmailing providers who they themselves have been making advertising money off of for years is very very sickening.

I don't know what they were thinking when they picked that name, it's like they've never been on the internet.

If they wanted a premium youtube, why not go with something expensive sounding like YouTube Black Label.
