Exactly. This could be a huge opportunity for vimeo and others. I honestly can't wait.

Holy shit, does anyone remember veoh? I used to watch some anime on there back in the day. Oh, it filed for bankruptcy and was bought by an Israeli company. Nevermind.

There's been so many youtube doomsday theories from users to content creators that it's not even funny anymore... Everyone just needs to calm the fuck down about youtube red. It isn't as bad (or good) as people make it out to be...

Well that's not really Google/youtube red's fault since the content owners of those channels choose to delete their content, I can assure you it wasn't Google who told them to remove their content. Companies/content creators won't have a single thing to worry about regarding their income stream, since if a user doesn't have youtube red then the service will work just like it did before where content creator (and MCN) gets their fair cut of the add revenue per contract. And lets be honest here, youtube red won't take off since what they provide for the consumer really isn't anything people will pay for. In addition to the fact that people usually don't like to pay for a something that used to be free. Youtube have had multiple subscription services in the past and guess what? All of them floppt, just like this will!

LOL I'm not freaking out about it. I'm just curious about it from a business point of view. How are advertisements affected? Do premiums for them go up? Also, where do the revenues go for those advertisements? What's the split? I want to make inquiries about why channels/companies haven't signed off on YouTube RED. I believe ESPN signed off because they had some kind of contractual agreements with other companies that would be in violation if they joined. Also, they took off their own videos manually. Other channels like Victor Entertainment still have their videos, and are able to have them viewed in countries other than the United States (because that's where YouTube RED is currently offered). That's why a lot of people are pretty peeved on the consumer side. (At least for us who follow a lot of the channels that were affected negatively.)

There's other ways YouTube can make money...it's just interesting why they seem to want to "beat a dead horse" as the saying goes. It's still really early to tell what's going on behind the scenes. I would love to read the contract that those channels had to agree to for YouTube RED.

YouTube Red is bad for everyone except for a few big names, like pewdiepie, who are going to star in exclusive shows that will require a Red subscription to watch. I wish that I were joking about this, but he's apparently going to be in a "reality tv" show of some sort.

Content creators and viewers are both getting boned. From what I've seen on Boogie's channel, content creators will get zero money from trial accounts. Since it's new you can probably expect that a lot of people will check it out in its first month. The result is that content creators could see a real dip in their income during that first month, and just in time for the holiday season. Time will tell if it turns out this bad for them. I hope not.

For the rest of us the result is obvious.

Personally I had one of my videos blocked in the U.S. due to its background music, though I had already acknowledged the copyright claim months ago and everything was fine. Then YT Red came along and removed the video from U.S. viewers. The video is now muted because removing the music track actually removed all of the audio.

Google took what could have been a good idea and then they Googled it.

I agree. To this day, Google+ goes down in history as one of the best business decisions of all time, despite being forced on everyone. In the end, everyone loved it!

It's the way things are going. Expect more of it.

Things are simply going to a pay for subscription plan and the internet is turning into a replacement for your tv, radio, probably telephone, and fax (email).

The streaming services are becoming the new cable TV channels. Simple as that. First they do ads, then they do no ad content until most people have that, then ads will slowly creep in because they "don't make enough money to cover costs", and so on.. Region locking? it's just the new way to lock up the internet and enforce boundaries, much like those that existed on TV before...

Business isn't very creative, so often times, the new technology is strikingly similar to the old...

Same :/ There's like no new yaoi. Lot's of doujins though, which is pretty cool. But those are usually short one shots.

Yeeeaaappp. It's like "Scene established. SEX. Cuddles. Cute outro picture." And most of them are just otps from an already established show, that's totally outside of cannon. I want more real yaoi. I haven't seen the Ai No Kusabi remake yet, actually.
