Post Reply Netflix to create some anime shows
Posted 11/11/15
It'll be interesting to see the end up doing whether it be revamping some old series or making seasons to completely new ones. I'll be excited regardless.

Great idea. You could go for an art style similar to fantasy artists like Frank Frazetta or Ken Kelly, both known for doing artwork based on Robert E. Howard's stories. Plus to do justice to Conan or Red Sonja, they should be dark and edgy, certainly M rated material. Also would love to see H.P Lovecraft's stories get made into anime too.

Wasn't even considering that art style when I thought of it but that would be awesome. Sadly, I think gritty animation like that has already seen it's day with every thing being CG today. As far as Lovecraft...well....we all know what happens when you put tentacles in anime.....

I think Cthulhu is more interested in taking over the world than having a hentai moment.

They already gave Cthulhu the anime treatment though, so I'd say all bets are off...

Love Netflix Originals. From what I hear from interviews with those who have directed/produced/etc Netflix Originals, they get a lot of creative freedom, which usually leads to some really good series.

Also, series and movies have been brought back to the dead thanks to Netflix (Wet Hot American Summer, Arrested Development) so could be interesting if Netflix produced a 2nd season of a popular series that no studio in Japan thought would work, but many fans would want.

OMG that's friggin' awesome! WE ALL have unfinished series:

Air Gear
Gurren Lagaan!?
SEKIREI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE LEGEND OF LEGENDARY HEROES OMG

C'mon Netflix! JUST CONTINUE THIS :D

How about a anime adaption of Girls of the Wild's? I'd be all for that.

Well Netflix knows how to entertain their audience imo. Most of the shows that are non-anime created by Netflix are really good for the people they aim to watch, an example would be House of Cards and Orange is the new black. Now this doesn't mean they still can't totally flop but I feel like they have a good idea.

Netflix needs to give the former members of Manglobe a new job. Is it true that their shows are more popular in the west then they are in Japan? It probably makes sense since several of their shows are set in Latin American countries.

I'm hoping they give shows that were relatively popular in the west second seasons, hopefully things like Spice and Wolf, Deadman Wonderland, and Baccano that still have a TON of material to work with.

Now that you said that, there are somewhat downmarket YA series that would make a great anime (Witch and Wizard, I believe or similar) that would make a great anime. Or better yet, take unadapted east asian novels and start from there.

Deadman Wonderland just needs an ending period, like The Devil Is A Part Timer, Gurren Lagann atleast had an ending.

Hopefully this'll open the door for good but controversial stories being adapted too, like Akumetsu (a high-schooler acts as a masked terrorist killing corrupt politicians) and Onani Master Kurosawa (a boy who secretly masturbates in the school bathroom everyday get's caught and blackmailed. No really, it's a great story.) One of Netflix's best selling points is that it takes on series not always welcome on wholesome TV stations.

I spent the last three days marathoning The Seven Deadly Sins from Netflix/Aniplex. If that's the quality they pull, then Netflix may eventually become a player in the production market. It wasn't the best I've ever seen, but it was pretty good nonetheless.

It could be fun. When Nickelodeon put out Avatar the Last Airbender they drew deep from the anime well, and it's one of the best animated shows we've seen in a long time. I'm genuinely curious about what Netflix can put out, and considering their original live action series have proven capable at least some of the time I'm not opposed to their giving anime a shot.
