I recently began to become more serious about my little blog at http://geekysweetie.com

I've set up crossposting to Medium, Feedly, Bloglovin, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Wordpress.com and I've tried to follow other users with similar interests, share their content, chat with others, etc.

The most pageviews I've had is 155 views in a day. And most days I'm doing about half that many.

I plan to start doing video blog posts such as lets plays and streaming videos. I even bought Action! last weekend while it was on sale during the steam holiday sale to do just this.

I'm thinking that people don't like to "read" anymore. And maybe the video posts will get more views. I prefer to read reviews myself because I can read them anywhere at anytime, without sound/volume or disturbing anyone around me, or on lunch breaks, etc.

But I know I'm a lot older than most people in the hobby these days, and probably "old fashioned"

Are blogs dead? Does no one care to read blogs these days?

If blogs are not dead, what blog directories should I submit my site to? Are there any sites specifically for anime / gaming? Most of the blog directories seem to be "mommy blogger sites".

Any other tips on how to promote in this niche?

You need to add a search bar. I find it very annoying isn't there for many reasons.

Now the review I check out I enjoy reading. Feel like there passion on them.

If you are going to do video too. I suggest you try like this dude is doing it. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO8Gg1W-ELsnQoFHpndyDoQ/videos

Ooops Thanks for pointing that out. I actually just changed to a new layout yesterday and totally didn't notice that it lacked the top search bar. I've added one back in to the sidebar ^-^.

I send you a message with a link to a site you should check out. I can't put in the forums. CR stupid age rules. Anyway are you a girl or a dude ? Is everything being done by one person ? Do you have any reviews, you think I should read ? Also do you have a review of School days visual novel ? Because I saw it being mention in the Catherine review. I will like to read it. Can you give me a link to it ? Unless I miss read it.

Awesome. I will check my messages when I get off work here.

I am a girl. Everything on the site is done by me, although I would be open to accepting certain articles from guest bloggers as well if anyone was interested.

I should do a review for School Days since I have recently beaten it with both girls Maybe I'll type one up tonight. I'll PM you the link when I get done writing it.

This will take you directly to my reviews http://geekysweetie.com/category/review/

The most recent review was from yesterday for Always Sometimes Monsters.

I have a lot of other visual novel reviews up there too. If you like school days and similar style games, you might like Higurashi which you can check out my review of Chapter 1 here: http://geekysweetie.com/higurashi-cry-chapter-1-onikakushi-visual-review-chapter-2-higurashi-watanagashi-preorder-announcement or a little indie game called Shira Oka 2nd Chances which is pretty fun and which I reviewed here: http://geekysweetie.com/review-shira-oka-2nd-chances-indie-visual/

Thanks for checking out my blog ^-^

I think you are the first person to mention the romance part for Higurashi. I like slow stories, since fast-paced tend to leave a lot for the imagination. I don't dislike that style of story but I prefer explanations than having none. I think I buy it when I stop being poor

The other 2 look interesting.

Also I made this clear in the private message I send you. The site does a lot of things but is also adult site. So be prepared to see a lot of stuff you may hate. For example they do review of eroge games. An has you may already know. That means stuff from romance with a lot of sexual content, to no all sexual content. To things like nukige or worst. By worst I mean if you hate those kinds of eroge games. But you say you may do a School Days review. So I imagine you are hardcore and aren't face by those things.

What I've learned so far:

Being active in forums, local community and convention help
Having a few friends share links to your site
Pinterest, Reddit and Facebook groups (don't overdo and look like spam)
YouTube Channel (just started this one)
Collaborative work with other bloggers
Promotional to pass out on the fly to interested people you meet (great to have during conventions)
Host a Panel
Volunteer at Conventions

More info: http://forprofitblogging.com/73-easy-tips-for-promoting-your-blog-post

Design standpoint:

The overuse of red is a bit off-putting for more views because red is associated with either danger or high importance. Since everything is red, it's hard to focus.

Brush up on SEO (search engine optimization) which would help your site to be easier to find via search engines.

More Tags don't mean more chances of views. It actually negatively impacts your site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/ See TAGGING

Re-working the menu: I don't know how to get to your review posts other than click on what I see only on the front page. Maybe rework your menu that lists your article archives based on categories.

I love the content though and I think you're doing a fantastic job so far and I am willing to help out as much as I can to make you successful. Please feel free to message to discuss further <3

Sharing links via a Facebook page for your blog helps. It also helps to share the link on other Facebook sites as your new page. It got me an extra 100 views in one week.

You will have slow weeks and great weeks. The point is to have fun with the blog. Don't worry about popularity too much, or it'll quit being fun and start feeling like a chore. Write the blog to please yourself first. It sounds cliché, but if you're happy with it, other people will believe in it too.

It's the same with all websites too. My first tree months it fel like nobody cared about my website. So I learned to just enjoy it for me, and before long, I had a ton of views.

Hi guys,

I'm not that active on the forums, but in another post I mentioned making an anime blog: onlyanimanga.blogspot.co.uk
Depending on the post, I get a few +1's on Google+ and very rarely a couple of retweets on Twitter, but I'd like to expand my audience a bit more and get more views and interaction with others.

I've been trying to make my blog posts more engaging and I have improved on how I write the reviews and what not (compare the first couple of reviews to the more recent ones), but I don't seem to get that much interaction.

I have recently changed the layout and what not, but please let me know what else I can do to get more views. I started the blog to share my interest in anime and manga with others since my friends aren't into them, and as you can see I am on Google+ and Twitter. I did have a YouTube channel but because of time I wasn't able to continue with that. Instead I'm focusing my time on making my posts as interesting as possible.

Also, XenoKitten, how did you get your own domain name etc? I'd like to be able to have my own site to post on

Thank you all for your feedback and advice. I will work on cleaning up the navigation some and maybe explore some other themes

As for domain names, I bought mine when I bought my hosting package - they're only a few dollars a year, but I'm pretty sure there are some sites that offer free domain names too if you use their site builder tools and allow them to advertise on your site. You could ask google for free domain names for more info. I recall seeing some out there, but since domain names are so cheap, I never bothered with that.

Do you think it's worth printing up "business cards" or "moo cards" to take to conventions etc? In addition to the website, I also have a meetup group (which I've been neglecting lately), (but which may make sense to promote at local conventions since it's geographically based).

Edit to add: Chose a more minimalistic theme, with lots of white space and changed up the top level navigation in the header to make reviews and news easier to find. Thanks for all the feedback

It's rather difficult to read your posts with the font and size you have chosen. Readability is a big key for interactions and longer Average Time On Page. (Read more here: http://designshack.net/articles/mobile/the-importance-of-designing-for-readability/ & here: http://www.conversionreview.com/blog/fonts-readability/)

Blogger has some really nicely design templates you can use for free: https://gooyaabitemplates.com/
I personally recommend: Minimal (https://gooyaabitemplates.com/minimal-clean-blogger-template/)
