First off, sorry for using the word 'otaku', some people love to call themselves that, and some might just be offended. just a heads off.

BUT, To be honest, Most of people who are unsociable or have the traits of an anti-social, most of them tends to fall out to be an otaku.
To be honest I am, but i even used to say things like, fk socializing, or who needs friend. but to be completely honest, i was fine, completely fine, but in reality all i do was creating a huge protection wall around me in fear of getting rejected by people, i have a severe anxiety.
I pushed people away from me, without me even realizing it.

most of the people i know who also likes anime or manga, tend to be quiet the same as me, to some people anime and manga can of course be the escape to that... or is it

I don't think ones interest in anime or manga necessarily makes much of an impact on their social life, so long as they aren't a weeaboo that tends to drive people away. I personally feel like my lack of RL sociability has far more to do with my general crappy ability to socialize as supposed to my interest in certain types of media, which I don't feel really reflect on my social skills that much.

Of course not. Do you know how many plushies I own?
I think I am sociable...but I'm not the type of person who goes up to people most of the time either. I like being around people, talking to people I know, etc. etc. I know a lot of "otakus" who are similar. Many do have social anxiety. The anxiety isn't as bad as long as your busy with stuff like talking to people or multitasking with drawing or sewing while talking to others that sort of thing. I sometimes think of how I would write these talking or sociable situations in a play, story, or anime or even a song which makes the conversation even more interesting

Nope! Why most people(especially those anime haters) think otakus are unsociable because their common sense is different from them. But, if otaku met otaku, i didn't need to say what will happen right?

I suck at being social. I'm a machine of creating awkward moments.
There's nothing I can do about it.

Anime is a bit of an unsocial hobby.

It's kinda like tabletop wargaming, it's a niche hobby (and usually seen as a nerdy one) thus it draws in the socially awkward people.
But at least playing tabletop games you have to be able to socialize.

While anime, you can sit in your room by yourself and never socialize.

It's not that unusual to just chill on skype with friends and watch anime though.

I personally do find some "otaku" "unsociable" in a way lol but I'm pretty open minded. I can see how some
people wouldn't really go clubbing or anything with such people, but anime is better than clubbing anyway... zzzz

well looking at my friends that are in to anime n such yes vary high % of social introverts who fit the stereotype. On the other hand If we all were like that we would not have cons like anime north now would we. http://animecons.com/events/

I typically don talk much but you bring up some thing like the place crash in Egypt (today in the comic shop) and ill talk your ear off like I use to work for the NTSB point counter point, theories, physics. same with OTAKUS its obsession based. and like science often vary focused and once you start talking about your subject matter you may loose a lot of your inhibitions. ....Just thought of the perfect caption ^^

well I watch a shit load of Anime and read Jump every week, and It has little effect on my social life. I'm extremely personable on account of being mildly psychotic. If I don't socialize I will literally start going insane talking to myself. So you know, a healthy social life all around.
