LOL I am surprised the votes are practically 50/50

Personally, I don't like dealing with people. I prefer to be alone, but I can be social if I have to be.....like out in public or at work.

eh idk. on the other side of the coin, I have tons of friends and in general would probably qualify as a drunk due to how often I go out, but I have the biggest anime collection ever and I watch mad series. I even own a few anime shirts, but fuck anyone who mocks em. Anime is pretty socially unacceptable tho lol. The key is to forget how to givefucks

I've always been unsociable.

I am definitely less sociable lol but I have tons of friends and most like anime. So I think it just depends, like a whole bunch of others have mentioned already lol but hey, to each their own, right?

Eh, I don't really think so. I've met a lot of people who like anime and most of them were sociable.
Me on the other hand...

I think an otaku would probably lean more towards being socially awkward rather than being outright unsociable.

Yes I actually do think most are unsociable.

The ones who aren't come off as annoying to me.

It just depends on who they are socializing with. They are probably not inherently anti-social or whatever you want to call it.

Come to think of it, didn't the term "otaku" originally get used to describe someone who never left the house? (it later became a term to describe obsessed anime fans)?

You're not talking about Hikikomoris (aka shut-ins), right?

No, i am aware of Hikikomoris, I've seen a documantary on them. They literally never leave the house, in some cases wont even leave their bedroom! (infront of anyone).
Iam not sure i might google it later, iam pretty sure the original meaning and actual meaning of the word "otaku" changed somewhere along the line.
Could be wrong.

I believe that most 'Otakus' don't love to socialize. However, that does not make them unsociable or lacking the talent to be sociable. For example, I myself don't love to socialize. However, if I'm out at school or a market, work, ect. I'm a very social person.

As far as weebs go, it's more accurate to say "off-putting" rather than "unsociable". A lot of anime diehards I've known have been very, very social, but it didn't translate well for them because they didn't have anything else to talk about.

But as an anime fan myself, I wouldn't say my love for it has anything to do with me being unsociable. I'm just a little awkward and I tend to push people away by default, so that's more a testament to my personality type instead of my interests.

it depends on the person, some are some arn't. it depends on if you use anime as a crutch to live life, or a stepping stone to better our life.

I haven't met many people who like manga or anime but I imagine that the ones that do would have a really bubbly personality if you're also someone who likes anime/manga!
