So yeah. Idk why people don't want to believe there's a secret organization of powerful people who try to influence the world toward their own agendas.

As a whole, people tend to group and find like-minded individuals. In college they teach you how to network. You hear lots of stories and in history lots of people who got "bumped up" for knowing so-and-so high political figures.

Even on cr, we have groups -_-, and I'm sure there's some stuff going on here like using Rabbit to bypass the premium balbhlah and country restrictions. People like to group.

So do you really think that people in powerful political positions aren't grouping too?! ZOMGG WHY WOULD U THINK THAT?

Here are just a few examples:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_and_Bones
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove

Everyone wants to have their own super secret boy band and do secret cool club stuff. What happens when super secret boy band members have lots of power? Well human nature happens -- they use it on everyone else.

That there are influential people trying to manipulate global political affairs isn't really a matter of contention. Geopolitics is a thing, political action committees and corporations (not necessarily the commercial kind) are a thing, and political families like the Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Bush families are a thing as well. Hell, monarchism and aristocracy are built on having networked political families. Where things start getting weird, where heads start tilting and eyebrows start rising, is when people start saying that internationalist communist Jewish Nazi atheist aliens (yes, aliens) are coming for our guns and our babies' blood or are the actual Christian devil and his minions come to enslave us all.

Really this is how I've always viewed the Illuminati conspiracy theory. There is this series I won't name to avoid spoilers where humanity's lot in life sucks. Every day is awful and brings no promise of anything but more prolonged suffering and a probable grisly, meaningless death. People in their despair began assigning the blame for these random, meaningless misfortunes to a grand all encompassing boogeyman, until their wishes in aggregate gave birth to the devil, to comfort them. Comfort them by actually being the unseen hand manipulating all their misery for it's own purposes. Because at the very least if they suffered at the devil's hand, their miseries were not random or meaningless. Because giving evil a shape and a purpose makes it more palatable, easier to comprehend, and less frightening. You can blame the devil for manipulating your suffering, but what can you blame if the evils of the world truly are just random and pointless?

the same principle underlies the whole concept of the evil conspiracy secretly manipulating the world. It gives form to the anxieties and turmoils of the day. It gives real life a final boss, a dragon in a mountain keep, a wicked sorcerer cackling in a tower. Suddenly the world's woes are part of some grand nefarious design to be struggled against and overcome to usher in an age of utopia free of their toxic influence and new world order. Because giving real life a villain to struggle against is a lot easier than dealing with the possibility that maybe catastrophes that claim hundreds of lives are really just random events beyond human influence and that human life can be snuffed out en masse for no real reason. Its more palatable than acknowledging that war, conflict, and political strife are the result of turbulent geopolitical conditions and a web of confusing histories, motivations and priorities. What it does is try to assign a form to formless evil. There's an unspoken yearning for comfort in the idea of the Illuminati, because the only thing scarier than there being a shadowy cabal responsible for all the world's woes; is that there isn't one.

My friend has a really close friend that is pretty much on the road to being a part of the illuminati. it's not the devil worshipping group that people really think it is. Really it's just a bunch of rich old white dudes that put their money together and trade ideas on how to be more rich. Alot of those ideas are illegal, so they keep it all shrouded in mystery and stuff. THat's why they say rappers "sell their soul" because these guys have money and connections, but in order for them to hook you up you have to pretty much become their bitch

The funny thing here is that they used to exist, but did not stand for all the shit that all these conspiracy theory nut jobs claim. Time for a history lesson. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati

They used to exist as a secret society with the one goal of enlightening the general population against religion and corruption. However they got infiltrated and disbanded. Tho their founder Adam Weishaupt just vanished out of fin air with no evidence of where he went or what happened to him... And this is where all conspiracy theories started since they think he made a darker version of the group after what happened to him and his group.

Also fun thing their logo isn't the all all seeing eye that we connect the group with today, their original logo is the owl of minerva.

That's all very well and true, but I was parodying conspiracy theories about the New World Order. Maybe you tagged me for FYI purposes?

If I tagged you then it was by mistake or some random glitch in CR. But consider it FYI purposes

Anyhow, I think there's some sort of group that lobbies in new laws. However I highly doubt there's something like the illuminati IRL. If anything then the bilderberg group might be something to "fear" since it's a group with all the worlds most rich people and politicians... And they also try to keep everything they talk about secret and always say things like "it's too secret to talk about openly", whatever that's suppose to mean

It seems like you're describing freemasonry, which is slightly different.

I had a handful of male friends in college who wanted to be part of the Freemasons for status, but I really think it was because of the hats (especially since two of them were Whovians).

I believe that there is a secret group controlling world affairs behind the scene. There have been a few people in American government in the past who have acknowledge powerful people pulling the strings. And I believe that with the wealth that some people have what's the point in buying another 100 million dollar home or a million plus dollar car. At a certain wealth point it would seem more entertaining to try and buy governments then materialistic things.
