Post Reply What do you think about Google's Veteran's Day Homepage?
Posted 11/11/15
I feel like what I'm about to say is going to get taken the wrong way but whatever. I hate how people feel the need to forcibly shove minorities into everything these days. As much as I hate that I still don't care that the picture isn't predominately white. I choose to look past the race stuff and just view it as a tribute to veterans. Until I saw this thread the race of the people pictured never even crossed my mind.

Same here, never would have even noticed if this thread hadn't popped up. And it still doesn't matter to me.

I am, I admit, a little shocked that I'm agreeing with you, but I went to check the page just before I clicked into this thread, and it was the first thing I noticed. I do think it's important to acknowledge that other than white men are part of armed forces and are also veterans, and I would have been more irritated if the image was just a bunch of white guys, but that did seem to be a pretty heavy-handed dose of inclusion, with white man just kind of waving from the back.

The pick one from this bin, and one from this other bin, and one from that bin and... method did create an image that gets a second look.

See I'm not so bad

-_- Really? Why must people be offended by the most inane shit these days? It's just a graphic on the internet that will be gone tomorrow dude. I hope you're being facetious.

I'm just going to be blunt here. The color of someone's skin has no bearing to me whatsoever so I literally couldn't give any less of a fuck.
But I' figure I should say the same thing I've had to say a lot lately.

Please quit being a special snowflake. No one cares that you don't like the google page, and no amount of obsessing over it is going to change anything.

Decided to send this to my grandfather who is a veteran and fought in the Korean War. He's also a bit of a racist at times, but that isn't that issue here.

I showed him the picture (Facetime is a wonderful thing btw) and explained to him that Google does this sort of thing for various events and holidays. I asked him what he thought of it and if he saw anything wrong with the picture. He told me he appreciated the fact that a major corporation was honoring veterans. He said he didn't see anything wrong with the picture either.

I then pointed out your issue with the picture about a lack of white men/women and asked him if he thought the same still. He said he didn't see anything wrong with it. He fought alongside black men at times and despite his racist tendencies at times they deserved to be in that picture as much as any other. He didn't think there was any hidden notion behind the race count.

If he doesn't give a fuck, I don't either. While it is true that more white men/women serve and are veterans than any other race in America it doesn't mean a simple thank you picture should cater to them. Stop reading too much into nothing and making it out to be more than it is. Just appreciate it. Veterans sure as hell do when someone thanks them.

Aren't they all veterans who died? I mean it's not like Avatar where they whitewashed the cast.

Ok, what about this is offensive?
Honestly skin color doesn't really matter.
Sorry I don't give enough f*cks to bother with people who care about what skin colors are in the picture.

Google's always been hyper-progressive but I don't consider it that big of a deal.

MFW reading this thread

INB4 someone uses this as an example of "white genocide". Seriously though, this is meant to honor all the veterans. Stop trying to make every god damn thing a racial issue, because in this case. Its not. I never thought I would ever have to say this seriously, but Check your privilege. And if it makes you feel better, im sure Google will do a Thanksgiving banner with whites murdering some Native Americans.
