For some, the Christmas spirit hits them right after Thanksgiving, when the holiday season begins. Some don't feel it right until the eve of Christmas, some don't even feel it at all. Whether you're a Christian or an Atheist who celebrates Christmas, that spirit may or may not come.

And then there are some who feel it pretty early on. For me this year, after Halloween ended, the Christmas spirit hit me soon after.

For those of you who celebrate Christmas, no matter if religiously or culturally: do you believe you have a choice of when the Christmas spirit hits you? When do you usually start feeling it? What do you think causes you to feel it at a certain time or inversely, what prevents you from having the spirit.

For those who don't celebrate Christmas, do you feel a similar spirit when other holidays come around? Do you feel that the spirit hits you involuntarily or do you have more of a choice of when you get excited? Any comments or feelings towards seeing society get ready for Christmas and how it influences the people around you?

For me, it hit pretty early, but mostly because I needed a goal to work to as this is my first year in college. I want Winter Break to finally come and something to make me feel warm and cheerful inside, a good goal to be excited about as I work to the end of the semester. I'm not a Christian, I celebrate Christmas culturally and tend to see it as a time of year of love, compassion, and celebrating the bonds between family, friends, and loved ones.

I'd love to hear more about this phenomenon and how it influences or doesn't influence other people, so lay it on me.

I really look forward to Christmas for the chance to see all of the family gathered together at one time! We're kind of scattered now, so that lull between Christmas and New Year is really the only time long enough for everybody to make it home.

I'm not looking forward to celebrating anything this year, to be honest. Halloween just about did me in, so I'm really not excited for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Bleh... Bah-humbug. :\

Just like you, I start to get a little bit of the Christmas spirit right after Halloween. I'm not a Christian either. Actually, the religion I believe in doesn't celebrate Christmas at all. But Christmas is my favourite holiday so I always look forward to it every year. I like Christmas for the decorations, the music, and the food. I wish every day was CHRISTMASSSSS!!

Q1) Do you believe you have a choice of when the Christmas spirit hits you?
Yes. I believe in free will.

Q2) When do you usually start feeling it?
It depends on that is going on in my life. Normally, I get into the spirit after Thanksgivings.

Q3) What do you think causes you to feel it at a certain time or inversely, what prevents you from having the spirit.
When it first snows and hearing Christmas songs on the radio. Therefore, making me start to think how to decorate my office, who to sent Christmas cards, Christmas shopping, determining which organization to make a donation, attending Christmas concerts (my girlfriend sings in the choir), etc. I enjoy Christmas and spending time with Family and Friends.

It just means I have to put up with people being even more fake than usual. Also the annoying music that gets played more than a #1 hit on the radio.

I think it happens to me when December is finally here, or as it gets closer to the actual day, since you see all the ornaments and whatnot, as well as the weather changing. As for the actual day, I don't really care much for it, other than it being a day I can spend with family, even if nothing is planned.
