This has become a bit of a pet peeve of mine for some reason.

I think when characters die they shouldn't come back.

Especially when they go out doing something heroic/important. While it can be sad and the story looses something when the character is removed, stories loose much more when death is seemingly not a factor.
No one dying or people coming back from the dead etc. takes away from the sense of urgency or consequence in the story, I think.

It's not a deal breaker, I mean I still enjoy One Piece, Dragonball and others. But for me, its better when the author can man up an keep them dead.

Just wondering if anyone else feels this way.

Depends on the story. If it happens too much than it's crap. :/

It depends on how it's done. If every character comes back fine it sucks. It ruins the story and you never feel in suspense. But if just 1 or 2 characters come back it can be done where it doesn't feel cheap. Maybe have them deal with issues or something.

Sometimes okay, sometimes annoying. It really depends on how it fits the story.

BTW, I'm moving this to the Polls forum. That's where all Poll Topics go, regardless of subject matter.

I think it depends on the circumstances, but most of the time, it doesn't work.

One example: Eren being resurrected as a Titan changed the whole tone of the series. I was thrown for a loop when he was eaten, but in a good way that made me think "this series has no rules whatsoever." But when he came back, it almost felt like a cop-out. I still read the manga and love it, but the feel changed and I was slightly disappointed.

Also, Sailor Moon always being reborn/resurrected after a major battle has always gotten under my skin. As much as I love that series, you know what's going to happen 98 percent of the time.

Aerith Gainsborough is dead, but people can't stop talking about that moment or FF7.

I'm fine with it if there is a good reason but if they just kinda come back its a little annoying

only if it matters in the story. if they are a nobody character with nothing to offer but monotany in the story then i wish they would stay dead. but if it is the villain that will not EFIN stay dead. as long as they have a reason, it's fine with me.

It really depends on the story tbh, in some settings its something everyone expects(like Dragonball) while in others its just a one time thing and not that bad.

And as long as its not more then once i don't think its bad, as long as it does't mess the story up, like the always returning villain u have in US comics.

Honestly as long as it is done right I don't mind. Sometimes the author can come up with a perfectly good reason for a return from the dead. I like how the Night Angel trilogy dealt with it. The MC had basically unlimited lives but each return from the dead cost the life of a person whom he cared about and whom cared about him in return.

Depends on whether I like the character. I personally do love a "Surprise, Bitch" every once in a blue moon.

This.

Also, it can depend on the story itself. For example, I enjoyed Persona 3 a lot, but I'm at odds with a lot of the fanbase who insist on bringing a specific person (who I won't name due to spoilers) back to life. One of the main themes of the game is accepting death for what it is and moving on from loss. To just throw that out the window for some sort of fantastical, happy-ending insults and spits upon the game.

Persona 3 is a wonderful example of how games can be an excellent medium for storytelling and art. It shouldn't be dumbed down just to pander to some fanfiction writers.

EDIT: And on an unrelated note, crying people back to life is cliche. Be more creative with it if you're going to resurrect characters.

It depends on why they're bringing them back from dead. If there's not much left to do with the character I don't see the point in it. I don't like seeing characters being brought back from the dead just for a dumb plot twist.
