you know I look around and I see shit movies. hear shit music. see shit tv. where is all this going? where are all the things that would give someone chills because of how cool it is. in the U.S. theres an effort to keep everything stupid. nobody gets a shot at anything just to make something great. yeah you can make your own website and upload things to your own music account but are people really content with that. I thought in the entertainment industry they select talented people to complete jobs and that person can make money from it.

for instance what happened to MTV picking up a show that was cool. that had creative juices behind it. what happened to them playing music videos (at all) that were freaking mind trips

this goes with anything in the entertainment industry. how come cable/satellite tv is full of shit shows? I thought every channel was made for creative programming.

I know the world is full of creative people and in my lifetime ive seen some cool shit but nowadays its all gone downhill. id like to know if anybody is going to school for the arts for whatever it maybe. hopefully someone can get a gig and change this world

That's pretty interesting to think of that. I have never thought about that way before.

Sadly, the human mind often has many people drive and head into fads. Most people whom are creative tend to be lonely with their ideas and how they can make the media better (if it was worse) due to the fact not everyone is creative. I wish they were since its nice and powerful to see ideas. You cannot understand most ideas but some will pick up to one to many people around you. Just gotta keep looking for people or that dedication of people that are willing to see new ideas. Giving a shot to TV or making a new channel will often help since media often influences people.

(Okay, here's the General Nebulously-Abstract Philosophical Treatise, to make it sound important: )

(And here's the specific complaint, that prompted the thread in the first place: )

Well, I'm not sure whether the CEO of Viacom officially came Out like the CEO of Bravo did, but it has seemed to affect the general programming tone of VH-1, Comedy Central, Nick at Nite and Nick TVLand with it.

Nowadays, when MTV really does seem to be more interested in teens with their shirts off and complaining-gamma-girl sitcoms--never mind VH-1 being more interested in Kardashians and TVLand being more interested in retired TV stars and cougars--I wouldn't wait up nights for them to bring Daria back, let alone Remote Control.

(Oh, and just as Cartoon Network doesn't make as much money showing Bugs Bunny as it does showing Adult Swim shows, or HBO doesn't make as much money showing movies as it does showing Game of Thrones, MTV realized they don't make as much money showing other people's music videos as they do showing Awkward.)

Creativity indicates curiosity. Without it, there's no advancement other than what is brought to us by fortunate accidents.

Well, I have a background in history but am in theatre now. I agree with you, the creativity level is waaaay down. But it could be because so many schools are shutting down art, music, and theatre programs nationwide, at least here in America they are. Those are the main outlets and ways people learn to be creative. Even if you are terrible at the arts, learning to be creative is what drives inventions, new discoveries, new ways of doing things, etc. etc. Also, the film industry has kind of lost a lot of the freedoms it used to have, although it is getting better. I hope. I mean ever since the Communist Witch Hunt, film hasn't seemed to recover as much from being scrutinized by the government, the false arrests that went on, everything. I think its probably more due to less education in the arts though. You can't learn to be creative if no one teaches you and your not a natural at it. Which is sad...because sometimes the greatest artists start out as not being the best artist and after years of hard work, lessons, sweat, blood, and tears, they finally become a great, famous artist.Or just a great. Artists are notorious for changing everyone's lives and being essential yet earning little money. Many in America often work 2 or 3 jobs to support themselves while not regretting their work since they can still do art, although sadly, not as much of it. Personally I think we need to find a way to support artists so people aren't discouraged from being an artist, or at least so the artist doesn't die of starvation or something. We also need to find a way to convince legislatures to fund art, music, and theatre in schools more. Maybe even art, music, theatre, and animation...although animation can be included in both art and theatre.
