Wait, alot of you are saying the video game boosted the show for you? How good is it? Is it an RPG or so something?

You may want to check this thread out. There have been a couple of LL! games, but it's safe to assume that any talk of a Love Live! game is in reference to the mobile game.

If rhythm games are your jam and you like praying to the RNG gods to get an idol you want, or ultra rares, then sure... it's good... If you also like gambling away your money on draws for the chance at getting a card you want, then it's super fun...

Really though, it's a pretty good game.

Well, you weren't UN-conscious.

Insert highly lewd response here that I'm too frightened to type due to mods.

I don't know since I haven't watched it yet. From what I've seen in AMV's I'm guessing it's one of those happy feel-good anime series with lots of cute songs. Apparently the first season is out on dvd in the UK so I plan to watch it and find out at some point.

the animation is gorgeous
the characters are all likeable (so much that there are fandom for the different characters)
the songs are catchy and sound really nice, which is a must for an idol anime

the story of the franchise itself is noteworthy (by the way, a similar question is asked in the series itself: "why do you like muse?"
the answer given in the series resonates with what some love live fans feel, given the story of the franchise itself)

the soundtrack used is beautiful.
example:

the soundtrack is used masterfully in the series.

Wait...waste actual money on the game for cards? Or is the money virtual? Well the popularity seems to make more sense. But I am somewhat disappointed since there is nothing new ot unique about it. Especially since I actually was looking forward to returning to the school girl band type of genre and having a new twist on things. But alot of what you guys said is what many others have said about Idolmaster or K-On.....And K-on was the last of its kind that I actually enjoyed before I got sick of all the excessive clones that preceded it. But maybe I might still watch Love Live because.....Rin looks awesome. From what I've seen of her so far at least. Im too weak minded for the cute, short haired, cheerful character. The one guilty pleasure I cant escape!

Well....yeah! But maybe something where it isnt too sugar coated and deals with relationships more realistically...so,ething like that. To me it's Just that people hyped the show so much I thought there was at least ONE thing different that attracted so much people to the show. But turns out it's because it relies so heavily on the same formula that people fall for it.

Eh, not to say that Love Live isn't formulaic in turns but the show actually is largely about the relationships between the characters. The music is great and it feels like really good anime comfort food but the biggest appeal is how well crafted the characters and their relationships are. The Idol stuff largely takes a back seat after the first episode or two and becomes an overarching plot for the series rather than what defines most of it.

Because The Red Queen.

Nine girls of different personalities, ensuring that there'll probably be a few you can get behind. They have some pretty entertaining interactions with one another. There are some pretty great and catchy songs. It has a somewhat compelling story, but it definitely wasn't anything to go crazy about. Honestly I'd say the songs, the characters, the games, merchandise and whatnot are really what keep people interested with Love Live! rather than the anime. Of course, it's good for getting that initial interest in it. And while I can't speak for anyone else, this was an extremely satisfying moment to watch. Avert your eyes Honoka fans.

How can Honoka have fans, she's a manipulative, spiteful, unreliable bitch.

Mostly because of Nico, Rin, Eli, and Honoka for me. I think you were pretty much onto it when you made the Idolmaster comparison. People enjoyed that, so they enjoy things like it. Sort of like how people who like action shounen series tend to watch and like more than one.
