Another fun topic from yours truly.

I had an interesting experience today. I am getting my arse handed to me by my second semester of Differential Equations. I was having a friend tutor me, when 3 questions in... I could hardly speak English, let alone do math! I think this is due to a high level of stress?

Have any of you gotten so stressed, say in front of a crowd during a speech, or during a test... that you couldn't even formulate a coherent thought? It is truly an odd experience.

Edit: I have also nearly passed out during a speech before. In front of a crowd of about 200. It was horrifying!

I've been creeped out in front of a crowd before. It's like a whole load of ants staring at you. That moment you'd much rather they weren't paying attention and looking anywhere but at you. It's a lot harder to forget the crowd when you're not even interested in the speech you have to deliver

Yes i have bad stress/anxiety issues. It would be impossible for me to stand on a stage and do a speech i would probably kill my self before doing that. I've also been playing guitar for 2 years so i'm decent but the moment i play in front of someone i'm not comfortable with i forget how to play and you know a bunch of other problems like that.

I get shaky legs when I did speeches

I break out, get exhausted and don't sleep very well. Fun times.

Physics class was the most stressful experience ever for me. The professor was so shitty and did a terrible job teaching the class...not to mention help was hard to come by. I was so lost and frustrated. As you can tell, physics isn't my cup of tea.

Back when I was an Engineer, I had to take Physics for Engineers 1 and 2. In regular physics you didn't use much calculus. In this we did. It was not my cup of tea either. It was horrid X)

I get stressed out quite easily, but I've never been so anxious as to almost pass out in front of a crowd I do get shaky legs at first though, and my voice can shake a little.

and you're lucky you don't have me as a tutor...I get frustrated when people I tutor don't understand quickly haha

So much physics hate in this thread. Poor physics, don't worry, I still love you.

If your school offers a course in public speaking I highly recommend taking it. I did so back in college and it was immensely helpful for whenever I've needed to do presentations for various projects. I disliked speaking in front of crowds, but the course desensitized me to the point where I can even bullshit about a random topic, come out the other end alive, and sometimes even have fun doing it.

I've never been the sort to get nervous about tests, so I'm afraid I can't help you much there.

Why do you think I had to do a speech in front of 200?! Public speaking was Satans Anus. I can talk about stuff I like no problem. Ask me about plate tectonics and I all but get a boner. Video games, alcohol, rocks and my favorite authors will do the same thing... But ask me to do a speech on whether abortion is right or wrong in the deep south... where you think like you are still in Germany/New England... That my friend, is paramount to suicide, if not worse!

Edit, Also, I love physics, knowledge. I don't like solving that shit. Same with thermodynamics. Love the theory, hate the calculations. I will just make a program to solve them for me.

Ah, the class I had was small (perhaps 20-30 students) so we each got to practice speaking in front of a group many, many times and eventually it just stopped bothering me so much, even in front of large audiences. Along with business law, public speaking was by far one of the most useful courses I took, since I used to get tongue-tied in that kind of situation.

Thermodynamics, another love of my life. Fluids was wonderful as well. I hated math courses, but calculations never bothered me so long as they were actually -doing- something useful. Doing math for the sake of math is the definition of insanity.

No, the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again expecting different results

Yeah I just cannot tolerate speech's, I literally need a cue card with the entire speech written on it or I'll just stand there with my entire body quivering rapidly.

What you experienced is probably a mild form of anxiety attack. Yes those are real, I used to have them really bad as a kid and I get really scared and confused about nothing. You can search up 'anxiety / panic attack' on google, it'll tell you what happens to you and how to remedy them; hope you feel better soon! : )

When i get to stressed my brain just stops and i go into a meltdown.

I say / do things i don't mean and can hurt others.

Because of that i make sure not to be stressed to that point by avoiding stress.
