The age old debate on whether or not this is runing gaming. Even if you don't believe it, please be mindful that at a business standpoint, people throwing money at you when you haven't created anything yet, wouldn't you be lazy and half ass it so you can secure more profit? After all. the money is already in your hands.

With season passes, I've been seeing more and more developers cut stuff out of their game and sell it as dlc. Destiny has been a prime example of this. Recently, Fallout 4 has had a harpoon gun discovered in the resources and may lead to Fallout 4 cutting some underwater gameplay out to sell it as dlc.

Also regarding Fallout, or Bethseda in general: If you haven't noticed, the world spaces they use in their open world games gets smaller and smaller with every game they release, and the gameplay is dumbed down. The writing is pretty terrible to boot, but look at their sales. Despite Bethseda selling a downgraded version of their games (except graphics). their sales have increased over the years instead of decreased even though the games they release are a lot smaller than previous games.

Despite what your opinion on the subject is, please be mindful that game companies could be trying to nickel and dime you and are using current business models to milk every dollar they can.

While I am having fun playing Fallout 4, I can't help but be overly disappointed to the whole presentation. You can move from one end of the map to the other in less than 15 minutes, the game is oversimplified and removed the perk system which made Fallout 3 awesome, and despite a post apocalyptic world, it feels stale and shallow. Bethseda is continuing its downward spiral of their ips and haven't delivered a great narrative experience since Oblivion. Part of the blame stems from current business practices where the developers have all the money in their hands before the game is even released. This will be the last game I buy, period. Until a brief of time has passed. As long as people keep preordering, buying season passes which is just a big bookmark and free money for the developer, and buying half asses non essential dlc, gaming will continue to be nickel and dimed until people take a stand with their wallets.

Imo yes. DLC and season passes bandwagon is cancerous to the gaming community. Pre orders, not so much. But preorder bonuses yes.

But I think your opinion is wrong about Bethesda lol, they aren't really that kind of company.
Fallout 4 is leagues better than Fallout 3. And Fallout 3 was a great game. I feel you are one of the people hating on Fallout 4 to hate. It's really just a step up above Fallout 4. From just color to gun play, it's all a step up. While storywise is opinionated, to say that Fallout 4 is smaller and dumbed down, is silly tbh. No offense, but yeah.

I believe this would belong in the gaming section if I ever saw a thread like this, but whatever, general gets more traffic.

Now for my opinion.

^MFW I see DAO5's DLC.

I admit, it is mostly cosmetic, but they shouldn't cost this much for a broken game.

There really isn't too much of a problem with DLC imo, other than EA who milks there DLC very hard. I don't think Fallout 4 is really downgraded. Do you want quantity over quality? Look at DayZ or ArmA, it is a huge map but with so few buildings. I liked how Bethesda made this map a tad smaller but still has enough content. With pre-ordering that is your choice if you want to gamble if the game is good or not, pre-order bonuses seem somewhat like a problem. Now 343i is doing something right in where they are making all the DLC free (like GTA) and mostly making there money on the REQ packs(micro transactions). Now when you hear micro transactions you think PAY TO WIN and I have not really seen Halo has PAY2WIN (maybe just skillz)(lol nope). Bethesda usually makes good DLCs especially since another Fallout won't come out in another 5-7 years.

Yes, they are ruining gaming.

Season passes are a slap in the fact, DLC(Disc Locked Content) is horrid and preorder bonuses are for cunts and manginas who need extra gear to win in multiplayer matches against superior players such as myself.

Also.

FUCK THAT DUMB MICROTRANSACTION GAMBLING SHIT IN EVERY GAME.

Kill that stupid ass, RNG, OCD aspect of multiplayer, God. Whichever jackass thought. "Oh, you know what would make this game fun? Gambling."

LOLOLOL!!!!!

/rant.

P.S. No, I'm not really a bitch.

What DLC does that game have? I didn't play that game(technically no one did).

I watched my sister play/watch with her and the story was cool. But we took it back same day since it was an off day and the "game" was shit.

I didn't know it had lots of DLC.

There's good dlc and bad dlc. Bad dlc is content that already should have been in the game but has been taken out for the sake of more money in their pockets, such as mass effect dlc, sims dlc etc etc.

Preorders are outdated traditions, just always bad and are always ruining gaming.

I think some developers do it right, but a prime example of the wrong way to do it is EA's strategy with Battlefront.

The base game is already ~$60, and it only launches with 12 maps and a handful of characters. Instead of enabling a player to unlock additional maps/characters/items through gameplay, EA is standardizing these things as DLC and charging a lot for them (not to mention that Battlefront is Origin only, which is a separate gripe for another thread).

Blizzard is being dickish about Overwatch too, seeing as they're charging $60 for preorders of a game that will be free-to-play upon full release. So you're basically paying for a skin and potentially useless bonuses.

It just makes me sad because I'm getting into gaming again through Steam, and I'm sacrificing the "full gaming experience" because I can't use my entire paycheck to buy DLC. :[

Some developers use DLC as a money grab from rich gamers... Other use DLC as an alternative to Expansions. When using DLC as a means of constant expansions and patching it is amazing.

EU4 uses it and you get free patches along with new DLC every 6 months that expand on existing features in the game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/236850/

It's turned a great game into an amazing game.

Okay ya almost had me till the Fallout 4 bashing started. Yeah the RPG elements of the game have been dumbed down to oblivion but the game finally feels like a proper shooter and less like some random modder found out how to put guns in Skyrim which is what fallout 3 and to a lesser extent New Vegas felt like. Combat finally feels fluid enough to make VATS so unnecessary that I wonder why it is in the game at all. And honestly who liked the way 3 did the Perk system. As a combat veteran I can tell you once ya know how to handle a basic assault rifle ya can usually figure anything else. Fallout 4 obviously benefited from someone who knew one end of a gun from another. Though it does still insist on separating bolt action from automatics skill wise.

As for the whole DLC, thing stop being so melodramatic. In this day and age people vote with their wallet. And companies that do DLC badly tend to have it reflected in their marketshare. DLC is fine when it expands upon the base game in a way that makes sense. After all there is only so much space on one disk or digital download. And given how memory hungry next gen gaming is I don't mind taking my game in bite sized chunks.

Ran, the problem is, fallout series is marketed as : " Post nuclear role playing game"; not " post nuclear shooter".

Fallout 4 is not rpg, it's cod in wheels that wants to dress up and play mine craft.

Also as for dlc's something funny for you all :
