There are a bunch of threads on general J-pop and J-rock, but not a whole lot in the vein of Japanese subgenres.

Are there any preferred ones on Crunchy (visual kei, shibuya-kei, jazz punk, etc.)?

For me, the big ones are:

shibuya-kei -- unintentionally exposed to this early on as a result of the Powerpuff Girls OST; love love LOVE Pizzicato Five, Cornelius, and Flipper's Guitar

j-jazz -- Mouse on the Keys, P'EZ, Sleep Walker, and SOIL&PIMP SESSIONS

shoegaze -- not at all specific to Japan, but I really like Mass of the Fermenting Dregs, Asobi Seksu, and others

I love jazz and one of my favorite performers is Keiko Matsui.
