Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (First Season) just amazed, me the psychological aspect, the confusion of the worlds. Oh it was great, the story was like picking up lost pieces. Finding out what caused this "Hinamizawa Curse" was so much fun. Insane girls, insane guy... "evil" cop... evil twin (Shion my fav <3.) It was absolutely amazing, made me want to squeal at times... and that's a very good thing. I think it's truly unique, not perfect... but unique!

8.5(or 9)/10

Higurashi no Naku Kori ni Kai (Second Season), this is when thing go a wee bit annoying. A cute little Satoko arc, was nice to see and all but nothing like the first series... Rika talks to "Hanyuu" (or as portrayed in the series herself)... kind of amazing to see... yet dissapointing too. I know there was a "mysterious/magical" curse, but a "ghost"/entity... really kind of killed things for me. Then they started talking about magical powers and all that shit, and I was like "WHY!?!?!?" The Massacre arc ended with a band, I was at the edge of my seat when Keiichi was shot... but I mean Rena, Mion, and Shion.. died easily.. Doesn't Mion have a fucking gun near her shoulders? Grab the gun bitch and shoot.

The last arc was nice and all but... the "tactics" they used to outsmart Takano were really shitty. They weren't in depth or anything, all I knew was they set up pot holes.. and traps... and that's it.... It was nice though... kind of... but eh... None of that pyschological shit happened except for a scene where she scratched her neck and injected the disease into Tomitake. Just when I thought it was over.. "3rd Season"... now comes witches.... and all that shit... I'm just fucking tired... "new revelations oh wow"... it gets really annoying after what? 48 or so episodes? Come on now... just end the damn thing and stop with the "new revelations".

well I agree the first season is really good but is somewhat confusing, since none of it seems to fit together till the end. I also think it set up the second season amazingly.

I have to say I absolutely loved the second season. They did a very good job of steadily getting your hopes up then crushing them, then getting your hopes a little higher and crushing them again and it does this until it gets to the final arc and it gets pretty intense and then finally suceed in breaking the cycle and you just want to get up and cheer, its great.

The music goes really well with both seasons. I especially like the second seasons opening.

Well I would have to agree with "macla06se" on this one. I really enjoyed this series very much. The first season left you with questions pileing up as the arc's went on, and confusion ran rampid. However, with the start of the second season, those questions began to recieve answers and the episodes slowly filled in the blanks. You finally understood completely what was going on near the end of the second season, however, by this time, you have already been dissapointed so many times with the charecters survivability, that you have nothing left to do but hope that they make it out alive in some fashion or another.

Despite MOST of the story line being very well written, I was, however, very dissapointed with the expidicious manor in which the second season ended. Everything was wrapped up, for the most part, in the very last episode and it didnt even seem well thought out or cleverly writen as with the other episodes. All in all though, I really enjoyed the entire series. The music was great and fit perfictly with the overall theme and feel the show presented.

Shirakawago, Gifu, is the real location of the town known as Hinamizawa in the popular Anime: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, which started as a "Murder Mystery" sound novel game and later spawned more games, manga, novels and eventually, the anime. Shirakawa-go is actually a beautiful tourist location famously known for its old farmhouses, which were added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 1995.

Now I hear that there is going to be a Third season as well. I wonder where they could go from where they left off?

But, is the third season already airing? Is it out yet?

I have a few things to say here.

First of all, the anime is good, though the plot and story is a little lacking. Can't be helped since the anime is based on a multi-ending visual novel. Plus, constrained to the timeline of the normal anime, they had to take out a lot of key points. Also, the reason I think why the ending kind of sucked was because it was an anime, and animes usually have a good ending (otherwise people are unsatisfied and go WTF!?!? WHY DID THEY ALL DIE!?!?!?[not a spoiler]). The ending in the anime, is not the real ending of the story.

Moving away from the anime, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni actually has a VERY in-depth story that starts waaay back when to the times of Hanyuu. It explains practically everything about the village's mysteries, pasts, etc. If I'm not mistaken, Rika is Hanyuu's 7th generation descendant? Anyways, if you're interested, go do some checking. Course, you don't have to know the whole story to watch the anime, otherwise they would've included it. So if your not the type who likes to know everything, just watch it as it is. Lots of people like it better that way.

Hanyuu minus Horns, Loliness, etc. Different from in Higurashi isn't she?

Moving back to anime, the third season I believe is Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (When Seagulls Cry?) which happens 5 years later, and is also based on a visual novel. Thus, we can expect the same style as Higurashi. It is practically unrelated to the story of Higurashi in anyway, unless you've read the entire story of Higurashi (mentioned above paragraph) then it ties in.

Concluding, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni is a good anime, though lacking a few things, but hey, don't all animes lack something? Very complicated story that is not explained is probably the biggest problem most people have.
