I use the term SJW on occasion, but I honestly wouldn't give a shit if the term was banned. It's become a snarl word to silence and slander one's ideological opponents. It'd be better if people were forced to think outside the box and actually view the person's argument instead of bludgeoning them to argumentative death with, "What an SJW!"

I think J.T. Sexkik defined SJWs the best. They're people with low integrative complexity who just so happen to view issues from a far-left perspective. Often, however, is this term misused. It's applied to anyone who stands for social justice and is sometimes used to simply dismiss the argument that they're making. And, at least as far as I'm concerned, that shouldn't be the way discussions are conducted. People should strive to have a civil, worthwhile debate -- not a screaming match where no one cares about any points besides their own, any evidence besides their own, [and] any thought besides their own.

Alas, it matters not. Even if we go as far as to damn the label to damnatio memoriae, nothing will have changed. A new term will arise to describe these kinds of people, then the meaning of that term will be twisted, then a new term will arise, then the meaning of that term will be twisted, and so will begin a neverending cycle of labels coming and going -- changing and dying. Taking the offensive against the label will require resorting to extreme methods such as censorship and filtering, all of which will be done in a fruitless endeavor to kill the snarl word once and for all.

To sum it up, filtering the word is pointless and anyone pushing for or enforcing that that should just stop giving a fuck and move on.

I think they're also cracking down on what appears to be ranting about such things, though I agree with your points. It appears that doing more than just killing a word. However, it may be effective on ANN. It is simply a means of discouragement against anyone wishing to hate, thus it is hoped they'll find better outlets for their anger than ANN. Sort of like how Kid MMOs (Like the 101 series) don't allow for explicit sexual content and terms, which has undoubtly proven effective in my attempts to pick up 10 year olds to educate them about being an imoutos. I kid, but you get my drift. In my opinion it is a bit like banning the N word. It won't stop people from being racist, they'll just be discouraged from using that site.

You know, maybe you people have a point. These people are freaking terrible.
I understand you not wanting to take the time to watch some of the videos I linked you to earlier(since they're pretty lengthy and I posted quite a few), but what I have bolded in your quote is the topic of the video that I'll mark down below.

Here's some examples from a youtuber I've been following recently.

This is pretty much it.

Sadly, the ones who are seriously just trying to post about issues that are important to them get pushed aside for the ones who complain about every fucking thing.

this is the most disappointing thing most of all. Wouldn't you hate to really care about an issue and not getting taken seriously because of others who took it to extreme levels?

That's why SJWs are getting to be worse. It sucks, especially for people who, like for example, I got a friend who posted about trans issues and got instantly told off as being whiny. Know another who's posted about the Black Lives Matter movement and oy vey, that turned into a hot mess....

Haha. I was just letting you know, on the off chance that you wanted to hear someone else's view on it. I didn't read much of the article you used since I already know most of what happened, but there's a chance that Alpha might have went over something not covered in the article you used, and I believe in the description he has his own article that he found.

Was just in case you wanted to look more into it lel.

There are ways of getting around SJWs, if you wanted that video game badly enough you'll get it, but frankly, I think most of this "SJW censorship" is done for a purpose, the harder something is to get, the more people want it.

The moderator's ruling in the topic that OP linked to seems to be specific to that thread. They said that discussion of it was "off-topic" and never mentioned anything about stopping discussion about it as a whole. That is, unless I'm missing something.

While they do tell a specific user to "stop soapboxing on the issue", they also warn them that it's getting OT -- which I assume is an abbreviation for off-topic. It never seems as if they're saying, "Don't post or engage in discussions about SJWs and social justice," but seems more to be an instruction to take it elsewhere.

Anyway, do MMO filters actually work? I won't pretend that my anecdotal experiences are proof that they don't, but from what I've seen they've never actually succeeded in preventing the usage of profanity or discussions on topics of a sexual nature, so I'm a little skeptical as to whether or not they actually produce any results. There's not anything in the filters that works to prevent users from simply getting around the them through misspelling the word, using slang, using abbreviations for it, placing symbols inbetween parts of it, etc.

Oh, was that it? I was under the impression from Max that they would be censoring SJW talk. I'm actually not sure about the mmo filters, I just wanted everyone to think I was a pervert as per the norm.

The big problem is "SJWs" are big on something called "Callout Culture." Which is a bunch of people contacting somebody and telling them to remove something because it is oppressive. Obviously that going to look like online mobbing and as well make them look like fanatics trying to police everybody. I myself am not a fan of some depictions but it seem to be more about using claims of something being oppressive as a mallet to hit certain people on the head with than actually being about marginalized people.

For example, there was a article on Jezebel about a store removing a Voodoo Halloween display and there was a comment about how nobody complain about Voodoo portrayal on American Horror Story. Someone responded thinking it okay since they like the show. That kind of illustrate what I think is wrong. Folks will go on a crusade against [insert something] but they will do mental gymnastics or turn a blind eye if it there favorite thing. There were a big fiasco webcomic called Mahou Shonen Breakfast Club because the creators were white but social justice people have no problem parading around Korra and Avatar when though they were made by white guys I presume to be straight. I pretty sure what I written show how disingenuous they look.

Ah, I see.

Yeah, you gotta be careful about taking people's words at face value. That's what got me suckered into supporting GamerGate. That's a story for another day though.

I've noticed that most so-called SJWs are the result of the Internet giving voice to people who are very immature and ignorant of the very issues that they want to fuss over. The Internet, as it does for all groups, gives their group a louder voice than they would have in real life. They should be told to grow up before promptly being ignored, but they're just text on the screen in many cases. As am I at the moment.

People are much too afraid to be "politically incorrect" or of offending someone, especially businesses since they can lose face publicly very quickly. In many cases it's as though people are afraid to act like adults or to expect people to react as adults so they tip-toe over any possible offense.

They're incapable of conversation and debate. Disagreeing and presenting actual evidence that contradicts them just gets you yelled at, pointed at, and harassed rather than eliciting any kind of conversation.

It's a really bizarre thing to witness happen. In many cases we have society moving forward, getting beyond prejudices and shaming prejudiced behavior. It's a slow, but visible process that's great to see happening, on the whole. On the other hand you have groups like SJWs who seem hell bent on patting themselves on the back and feeling special, even if that means tearing away at what progress there's been.

This is a bit of a hobby horse for me. As someone who's actually a part of the LGBTQ group I can't stand watching them as they use people similar to myself as props in their glory seeking vitriolic hate crusades. Nobody needs their "help" and I certainly didn't ask for it.

edit: Nevermind regarding my ANN comment. A previous post cleared that up.

I didn't know what SJW meant until like a week ago because I ignore netspeak but in any case, this is kind of an okay thing by ANN to do.

So, instead of calling them "Social Justice Warriors" should we call them Social Media Marxists/Communists?
