So, as the title says, im not so new to anime, but im not your regular otaku either, my question might seem idiotic to you, but, instead of trying dozens of different shows, im asking you people

For me, SAO was in places very very mindf**ky, (i still have 2eps to go, i dont want to watch until i know if theres going to be season 3 for sure or not) enough to make me pause the episode and catch my breath, or stop to cry, yes, i might be rated as more sensitive person than average, hell i dont know

Anyway, for some twisted reason, i really, _really_ liked that feeling afterwards, and for reasons, i'd like to experience those kinds of feels again ^^

So heres me asking, can you recommend me series which offer the same thing, in regards mental thingies, i know about log horizon etc but im not ready to commit to it if i dont know that it offers "the same" :)

I know, alot of words for "suggest me anime that offers same mindf**k that SAO did"

The floor is yours ladies and getlemen :)

I have not watched Season 2, so I do not know what level of mindfuck, but Satoshi Kon films tend to be confusing and understandable. Some say the imagery is there to distract from the plot, but I believe it makes for an interesting journey nevertheless.

It's not hard to beat.
One's that immediately come to mind;
Puella magi madoka magica
Little busters
Chaos;Head
From the new world
Mirai nikki

Lots more but I'll have to actually put effort in to remember them.
For someone like you though, Mirai nikki is probably where you wanna start.

The most "wtf was that!" anime I've ever seen is easily Serial Experiments Lain. It's also surprisingly good.

The best sci-fi anime I've ever seen is Steins; Gate. Time travel plot line at its best.

I'd also recommend Eureka Seven, for its great sci-fi setting, nice love story, and fabulous character development.

The Key anime all have their moments, especially if you like romance and drama along with your plot twists. They are:
Kanon, Clannad, Little Busters, Angel Beats, Charlotte

If you want shows that are just similar to SAO, try:
Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?
A Certain Magical Index
High School DxD

I'm with you there, I love any sort of entertainment that makes me cry, I wonder why it's such a good feeling.

My biggest recommendation is Little Busters. It's the hardest I've cried in my life, but it's due to real world reflections I was able to make through the series and a comparable setting.

Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works also had their moments. Absolutely fantastic artwork, animation, and soundtrack. Some of the best animated fights I've seen.

If you're willing to commit to the time of watching hundreds of episodes, try Naruto.

Yes. Texhnolyze is very slow to start, but if you stick with it and you love psychological fuckery, you're guaranteed to love it. It is emotionally and symbolically one of the darkest anime I've ever seen, and it's always been in my top five. Lain is a bit strange, but very lovable. Art is also by ABe.
